2 OUR COMMITMENT Our Zest range is fully compostable within 90 days (EN 1342 certified). At Colpac, we are proud of the fact we were one of the first manufacturers of carton board packaging to offer environmentally-friendly products to the food service industry. As a sustainability-driven business, we recognise the importance of where and how when it comes down to what we produce and which materials we use. That is why we are committed to ensuring that our practices and products continue to complement our green and innovative approach to our marketplace and are integrated with our environmental policies. Today, a large proportion of our range is recycled, recyclable, biodegradable or compostable*; and recyclability is at the centre of our environmental commitment. Colpac recognises its responsibilities in relation to the environment adopting working practices and procedures that minimise any adverse impact on the environment. We encourage all our employees to play their part in enhancing our sustainability efforts and are rigorous in our selection of new suppliers and reassessment of existing ones. OUR CERTIFICATIONS Through continuous monitoring, not relying solely on self assessment, and conducting our own visits to verify ongoing compliance, we are extending our social and environmental commitments into our supply chain. Folly Wood, Flitwick. Proud members of the Woodland Trust and sponsors of our local woodland. OUR CREDENTIALS We are PEFC & FSC certified and offer packaging solutions guaranteeing board quality and traceability. We are licence holders of the relevant trademarks and they can be used to help identify certified products A holistic recycling approach: We actively recycle as much of our waste as possible, from plastic wraps to aluminium printing plates, in compliance with Producer Responsibility Obligation Regulations 2007 Member of OPRL, membership of the On-Pack Recycling Label OPRL delivers a clear and simple message to the consumer enabling more consumers to recycle more material correctly, more often Member of SEDEX, supporting us in driving forward our ethical trading policy and commitment to sustainability Active reduction of energy consumption, whether in manufacturing, office spaces, or transport logistics Active reduction of material consumption, notably through continuous optimisation of packaging designs Sourcing from local suppliers where possible, promoting our local industry, encouraging sustainability, and reducing our carbon footprint CARBON CAPTURE Colpac are proud to be engaging with the Carbon Capture programme, a unique, market leading, environmental marketing initiative with real tangible benefits. We are now offering our clients the opportunity to capture the CO₂ emissions from the manufacture and distribution of the material we purchase for our packaging products by planting new native woodland right here in the UK, through the Woodland Trust and the Woodland Carbon scheme. By opting to Carbon Capture with Colpac, you are helping to create native woodland in the UK providing habitats for wildlife and green spaces for all to enjoy. The Woodland Carbon logo can be used on packaging to enhance, communicate your brand and your environmental values. The Woodland Trust issue certificates detailing the amount of new native woodland you have helped create and CO₂ captured. All our carton board material is purchased from managed forests, in line with EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) Providing training opportunities for our employees to ensure compliance with our health & safety, ethical, and sustainability practices Employing local staff and investing in our community: our employees become advocates of sustainable practice Consistently working in alignment with initiatives to reduce food waste issues: with UN targets set to cut global food waste by half in 2030 and to reduce greenhouse emissions. Our M.A.P. (modified atmosphere packaging) products and more conventional, innovative designs can extend shelf-life by several days or even weeks, reducing food waste and fuel emissions Operating close to residential areas, we strive to be considerate neighbours: reducing noise pollution and operating within sociable hours An Environmental Management System that satisfies many of the requirements of ISO14001: % of our board waste is collected for recycling More than 99% of our total business waste is recycled * Where facilities exist.

4 WASTE MANAGEMENT Our packaging can be disposed of in a range of environmentally-friendly ways. As consumer attitudes change towards the recyclability of food packaging, we are constantly reviewing and refining the materials used in our packaging to ensure effective waste management of our products. To keep our packaging out of landfill sites, each of our products can be effectively composted or recycled in the U.K. and many countries across the world*. THE WASTE HIERARCHY REDUCE Only buy the food you will eat REUSE Do not throw away food that could be eaten COMPOSTING or Anaerobic digestion RECYCLING Mixed Recycling Facility (MRF) ENERGY RECOVERY Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) LANDFILL COMPOSTABLE PACKAGING In line with consumers ongoing commitment to ecological values in the UK and around the world, we are now able to offer packaging which is fully compostable. The boards, windows and barriers from our packaging are broken down naturally and are absorbed back into the ecosystem. They decay into a nutrient-rich material in 90 days and do not release harmful toxins in the process. How to compost our packaging: Food waste bins (industrial composting) Industrial composting plants Anaerobic digestion Did you know? You can leave food in your compostable pack - this may help the composting process. COMPOSTABLE LIFE CYCLE MIXED RECYCLING FACILITY (MRF) Our packaging can be recycled in on-street recycling bins and recycling bins at home Always make sure that the pack is clean from food before disposal, to ensure full recyclability. Recycled waste is collected by the local authority and transported to a recycling facility. Rejected materials may be sent to a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) facility, where energy is recovered from waste Load arrives at a Mixed Recycling Facility (MRF) and is assessed if there is too much visible food contamination, load is rejected. Pre-sort: Pickers remove items such as textiles, plastic sheets, black plastics, food waste, unexpected items and metal. The pickers do not positively pick biodegradable and compostable products. These end up in the mixed paper stream. Automatic sorting: rotating drum with different sized holes sorts different waste streams by size. Our packaging ends up with lots of different mixed papers. Mixed papers are baled. Bales are randomly checked if they have too much plastic or too much food contamination, they are rejected. Mixed bales are then sent off to the paper mills to begin the paper and cardboard recycling process. REFUSE DERIVED FUEL (RDF) 1 Packaging that ends up in non-recyling black bins, either at home or on the go, or is rejected at the mixed recycling facility can be passed to a RDF plant where energy is harvested. 2 At the plant pre-sorting to collect any left over recyclabe waste. GENERATING HEAT AND ELECTRICITY 3 Waste is fed into an incinerator and burns at over C. Heat enters a boiler to produce steam which powers a turbine that generates electricity. Emissions are monitored to meet strict environmental standards. 4 Harmful gases are removed and particles filtered. Material collected by the air clean up system is sent for treatment. 5 Ash is collected at the bottom of the incinerator (can be used for other products e.g. tarmac). Magnets remove any remaining metals for recycling. THE CHALLENGES Infrastructure varies throughout the UK Current recycling infrastructure in the UK means that local authority segregate materials in different ways and waste management organisations have varying methods for assessing levels of contamination. Main problem: contamination from barriers, coatings, laminates, windows and food Where contamination is too high, materials may be sent to RDF Where RDF is not possible or suitable, product may end up in the landfill. We have visited recycling plants in order to better understand the recycling process and how our packs can be recycled. We cannot predict where our products will end up, so we will continue to innovate with our materials and designs as the industry pushes for our waste streams to be streamlined. * Please review with your local authority for regulations and best practice about recycling.
