WATER TREATMENT DIVISION SEAWATER DESALINATION DESIGN, MANUFACTURING, SUPPLY AND CONSTRUCTION ON A TURNKEY BASIS OF THE WATER INDUSTRY OBJECTS FOR INDUSTRIAL ENTERPRISES

Seawater Desalination About company The company AGBOR Engineering, founded in 1985, is part of international group of the companies, known as «Water Group». It is one of the European leading companies in engineering and water treatment equipment manufacturing. The Company s main function is focused on solving processing water preparation problems. Inclusive in this function is: the production of quality drinking water, seawater desalination, industrial wastewater purification, closed cycles of water supplies and the production of cooling circuits. WATER GROUP consists of: AGBOR Engineering (UK) Water Group Ltd Oy (Finland) LLC AGBOR Engineering (Russia) FE AGBOR Engineering Ltd (Ukraine) 1 AGBOR Engineering

SEAWATER DESALINATION Seawater Desalination Seawater Desalination technologies Seawater Desalination is one of the most important processes which helps to prevent many problems in the future. Presently, at time of global and gradual reduction of water reserves, the problem of seawater desalination and water purification becomes quietly significant. Agbor Engineering is developing seawater desalination together with water and waste water treatment technologies. The most important desalination methods are: Thermal Desalination (Distillation) Desalination on the semipermeable membranes (Reverse Osmosis) Comparison of desalination methods: Thermal Desalination (MED, MSF) is a power-consuming process. Membrane Desalination (RO) is a power efficient process. Power consumption, kw*h/m 3 Steam Electric. Total MED 4,5 1,2-2,0 5,7-6,5 MSF 14 3,0-4, RO - 2,6-4,2 2,6-4,2 World Water Reserves A large saline water layer, that covers main part of the earth's surface, is the whole entity. It has approximately constant composition. The World Ocean is enormous. Its volume is 1,35 billion km 3. It covers approximately 72 % of the earth's surface. The World Ocean consists of almost all the water on the Earth (97 %). Approximately 2,1 % of water is concentrated in the polar ice and glaciers. 0,6 % consist of fresh water in lakes, rivers and ground water. The rest 0,1 % is saline water of drilled-wells and brackish waters. 2

About project AGBOR Engineering develops engineering and performs supply of complex desalination installation of Mediterranean Sea water for MMK-Atakas, metallurgical plant in Turkey. Available equipment and technology are suitable for water treatment, supply and disposal. Problem Data: Water-supply source Salt content of the source water Source water hardness Capacity requirement: UF RO 1-st stage RO 2-st stage sea water ppm 139 mg-eq/l m3/d m3/d m3/d Metallurgical plant MMK Atakash has two production areas in Turkey; one of them is situated in Iskenderun, and the other one in Istanbul. 3 AGBOR Engineering

SEAWATER DESALINATION Solution Technology is chosen by the following scheme: Seawater Ultrafiltation (2000 m3/h) Reverse Osmosis (1000 m3/h and 660 m3/h) Drainless Purification of chrome-, oil- and SSAS containing drains and equipment for dehydration. Process automation and construction solutions perform technological processes according to Seller s requirements. Customer s water supply is designed with such schemes of the reverse water supply, as: contact ( dirty ) and contactless ( clean ) cooling circuits. It prevents industrial waste disposal outside the complex. The project proposes 6 systems of contactless cooling. The systems are based on the principle of cooling water quality, input pressure, temperature and location. 4

Screen Filters Automatic self-cleaning filters, with nominal filtration value of 200 micron, are applied to prevent clogging and mechanical damages of the ultrafiltration membrane capillaries. Advantages: Cleaning without main flow interruption ; These filters are energy-independent; They don t require technical service; They have easy installation and operation. Ultrafiltration Ultrafiltration is the most efficient method of the surface and sea water clarification which is used before Reverse Osmosis installation. Utrafiltration is based on the principle of water filtration through the polymeric porous material. It delays suspended and colloid particles and transmits dissolved salts. Ultrafiltration has eight racks; each of them consists of 96 parallel membranes dizzer 5000 of Inge production. Reverse Osmosis Water desalination, performed by Reverse Osmosis, is based on the principle of water filtration through the polymeric material (membranes) at high pressure. Pore diameter of polymeric material delays dissolved salts: 1st stage of Reverse Osmosis has five units; each of them consists of 50 parallel high pressure housings. Each housing has six loaded membranes Hydranautics of 8040 standard. 2nd stage of Reverse Osmosis has three subunits; each of them consists of 28 parallel high pressure housings. Each housing has six loaded membranes Hydranautics of 8040 standard. Hydranautics (USA) is a worldwide leader of membrane manufacturing. 7 AGBOR Engineering
