Sustainability Report SOUTHERN PALMS BEACH RESORT, CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS

REPORT ON SUSTAINABILITY ACHEIVEMENTS FOR 2015/6. Submitted December Against the background of the ongoing recession, Southern Palms Beach Club has continued our commitment to operate as a sustainable hotel property. Targets and Performance The Guest Night Indicator (GNI) is used. The Guest Night Indicator (GNIF) is also used which takes into account the external covers and functions that the hotel conducted throughout the year. The GN figures for overnight stays for the period January 2015 & up to December 2015 were The GNIF for the same period was (These figures showed a 1.04% decrease from 2014 compared to 2015 GNI and a 0.13% increase in the GNIF for the same period). The GN figures for overnight stays for the period January 2016 & up to December 2016 was The GNIF for the same period was (These figures showed a 5.84% increase from 2015 compared to 2016 GNI and a 5.84% increase in the GNIF for the same period). Energy 2015 Having set a reduction target of 3% from the figure of 23.04kWh/GNI & 22.03kWh/GNIF from 2014 we recorded a marginal increase in both indicators of 2.78% (GNI) and 1.65% (GNIF). These figures account for energy sources of electricity only. These figures are attributed to the GNI figure being marginally lower than Energy 2016 Having set the same reduction target of 3% from the figure of 23.70kWh/GNI & 22.40kWh/GNIF from 2015 we recorded a marginal reduction of 1.69%kWh/GNI and 1.70%kWh/GNIF. Again, these figures account for energy sources of electricity only. These figures were attributed to the marginal increase in GNI & GNIF figures.

The Photovoltaic system in Crescent block was fully installed and operational from July Barbados Light & Power bills recorded a total of 4649kWh sold to the grid for the period to which amounted to a saving of $ For the period of to the bills showed a total of 11409kWh sold to the grid for a saving of $ The rate received from BL&P ranged from /kWh to 0.416/kWh Water There was a target set of a 3% reduction over the previous period s performance of Gal/GNI (Jan to Dec 2014). This goal was achieved when the Hotel reduced consumption to Gal/GNI which showed a 17.27% reduction. The figure from 2014 of Gal/GNIF also showed a reduction in 2015 s figure of Gal/GNIF which is an 18.24% reduction. Water The same target of 3% was again set for this period. Comparing Gal/GNI in 2015 Jan Dec, the Hotel showed another reduction in consumption of Gal/GNI which showed a reduction of 9.16%. Using the 2015 figure of Gal/GNIF a reduction was also shown in the amount of 9.17% Waste - There was a reduction target of 3% reduction over the previous period s performance of 2014 however due to not receiving the data from the collection/recycling company, records were not able to reflect an increase or decrease in the amount of waste saved from the landfill between the period On receiving data from B s Recycling, the Hotel recorded the following: In Collection of Plastic Bottles (2171), Cans (910) & Glass (1672) for a total of 4753 items recycled and saved from going to the landfill. In 2016 Collection of Plastic Bottles (1637), Cans (1375) & Glass (1510) for a total of 4522 items recycled and saved from going to the landfill. A decrease of 4.86% from 2015 to 2016.

Composting is not a viable option for the Hotel at this time, so kitchen & garden waste are still being sent to the landfill which could drastically cut down on the amount of waste generated by the Hotel. I would like to mention Janice Downie and her department s Green efforts but more specifically sourcing the vegware containers in place of the cardboard ones (not ideal due to leakage!) which we had used for take-outs when Styrofoam was no longer being used. Jan is always looking for Greener options within her area and also throughout the Hotel and should be commended for her efforts. Roslyn Gooding and the Housekeeping department is another area which is doing well in its greening efforts including the automatically dispensed chemical system, use of more environmentally friendly products when cleaning Guest rooms and linen reuse/replace system Congratulations to you all keep up the good work. Activities Training There were a number of training initiatives undertaken in 2015 & 2016 including: Customer Service Painting Leadership Vector Control Safety Planning Climate Change surveys & General Environmental surveys were participated in to assist UWI Students. Dissertations & Research Agencies Many Staff members are being mentioned by name in the Guest Comments sheets for friendly and good service.

Environmental Management Conservation Property members continue to actively execute the programmes in place and have made strides in key areas as reported. Barbados Sea Turtle Project continues to play a big part in the Hotel s conservation efforts. CSR The Hotel remains committed to assisting where possible with donations in the form of Gift Vouchers for lunches, dinners for the elderly or homeless via the Kiwanis, various food and drink items for functions of various Church groups, sporting events and community events. Members of Staff/Management support the Seventh Day Adventist Church in their endeavours to help the Community with donations of food, clothing, Christmas decorations and many any other useful items. The Hotel also receives donations for the Barbados Vagrant & Homeless Society, Barbados Sea Turtle Project and Rashonte Parsons. We thank everyone for the invaluable part they play in our sustainable programme.
