EarthCapades H 2 0 Show K-2 Activities Hello! I m here to teach you about taking care of one of the Earth s most precious resources - WATER, also known as H 2 0. We will learn: What water is Where water comes from What the water cycle is How the water cycle works Ways we use water How to Conserve, Protect and Respect Water

What is Water? Water comes in three different forms: solid liquid gas A solid is a kind of matter that holds its own shape, and does not flow. A liquid is a kind of matter that will flow and fill up any shape of container. A gas flows and does not have its own shape. Gases, are everywhere, floating around us. Look on the next page for pictures that will go in these columns. 2

3 Forms of Water Color the pictures below, cut them out along the dotted line, and place (you can also use glue or tape) in the appropriate column for solid, liquid, or gas on previous page. 3

Water Cycle Facts Evaporation is when the sun heats up water in rivers or lakes or the ocean and turns it into vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air. Condensation is when water vapor in the air gets cold and forms clouds. Precipitation happens when so much water has condensed and the air cannot hold it anymore. The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the Earth in the form of rain, hail, sleet, or snow. Color in the Water Cycle picture below. 4

Water Memory Match-Up Game HOW TO PLAY: Cut out the squres along the dotted lines, mix them up, and place them face down. Turn over two squares. (If playing with two players, take turns turning over two squares at a time.) If a match is revealed, you get to keep the two squares. If you reveal two pictures that don t match, both get turned back over. Play until all of the squares are matched. If you are playing with two people, the player with the most number of squares wins. 7 Ways we use Water People, plants and animals all need water to survive! We need water to drink and we use water to grow our fruits and vegetables. We need water for manufacturing, to make things we use. Draw a picture inside the water drop, showing a way that you use water. 7

Respect Water When people litter, trash ends up in rivers, lakes, the bay and the ocean, making the water dirty and unsafe. Trash in the ocean, rivers, and lakes is also called pollution. Please RESPECT water - remember to pick up your trash and to recycle! Cross out the things that don t belong in the ocean: 8
