SOLARPVSYSTEM INFORMATIONPACK FIT PROGRAM (Thailand, July 2013)
The Thai government has recently introduced a generous subsidy scheme involving Feed in Tariffs. This means that you get paid a premium rate for every unit of electricity that you feed in to the electrical grid. This dramatically reduces the payback period meaning that installing solar makes great financial sense! GRENZONE SOLAR PV SYSTEMS If you are considering going green and earning money from solar energy, look no further than Grenzone we are fully qualified and experienced suppliers and installers of PV solar systems. Our photovoltaic solar panels are high quality, completely silent and require little maintenance. But they will generate electricity and income for a lifetime the first 25 years are fully guaranteed. REASONS FOR INSTALLING SOLAR Electricity & Income get paid THB for every kwh produced Guaranteed payments Government backed, guaranteed payments for 25 years A solar PV system will increase the value and desirability of your home, business or factory. Simple, Reliable, Stable and Guaranteed Investment with short payback period. Payback periods of 8 10 years. WHY USE GRENZONE? Experienced Engineers we are qualified, approved and experienced installers of solar PV systems. Free Estimation 25 year warranty all our solar panels come with a free 25 year performance warranty Extensive project portfolio with experience in multiple different project types. (available on request) International experts WHAT IS A GRID-CONNETED SOLAR PV POWER SYSTEM? Grid connected solar PV systems use solar modules to generate clean, green and reliable electricity from the sun by a process called the Photovoltaic effect (PV). The electricity is then fed into the mains power grid via an inverter. When the solar modules generate more power than is being used in the building, the surplus is exported to the mains power grid. When the solar array generates less power than is being used in the building, the difference is imported from the grid.
HOW DOES A GRID-CONNECTED SOLAR SYSTEM WORK? Solar modules convert sunlight to electricity. The modules generate direct current (DC) electricity which feed into the inverter, which transforms the DC electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity for use with the mains power grid. The electrical switchboard distributes solar electricity and mains power to the electrical loads of the building. HOW MUCH DOES A GRID-CONNECTED SOLAR POWER SETUP COST? System prices depend on size, location, type of technology and individual options. Our sales team is happy to help with understanding all these factors and work out the right system for your budget. IS MY BUILDING SUITABLE FOR A SOLAR POWER SYSTEM? Available roof space, orientation and shading are important factors in assessing suitability. Our consultants can evaluate the building and propose an appropriate system. WHAT HAPPENS ON CLOUDY DAYS/AT NIGHT? In a grid connected PV system you are connected in parallel with the mains power supply. Therefore, when the system is not producing electricity, power is drawn from the grid and electricity supply is uninterrupted. WHAT HAPPENS WITH GRID CONNECT SYSTEMS DURING A BLACKOUT? The grid connect inverter will automatically shut itself off within a few milliseconds of a blackout, this is a safety feature called anti-islanding. Therefore even though you have a solar system, during a blackout you will not have power available. IS THERE ANY MAINTENANCE REQUIRED? Grid connected solar systems have no moving parts and require very little maintenance. We provide a maintenance schedule for the first year of the system which involves cleaning the panels, and testing to ensure the system is working correctly.normally it is advised to clean the modules twice per year to prevent build-up of dirt, dust or bird dropping which may reduce system output.
WHAT IS THE LIFE EXPECTANCY AND WARRANTY OF A SYSTEM? A grid-connected system has two main components: Solar panels (25 years warranty on 80% performance output and 10 years on 90% performance output) and Inverter (5-10 year warranty). It is well proven technology and has numerous installations all over the world. The system could last 30 years under proper maintenance and care. WHAT ARE KW, KWH AND KWP? kw stands for kilowatt, or 1,000 watts. It is a measure of power. Grid-connected solar power systems are rated according to the number of watts it can produce under standardized conditions. kwh stands for kilowatt hour. It is a measure of energy. If you ran a 1kW appliance for one hour, it would use 1 kwh of energy. Electricity companies charge per kwh of consumption. kwp Kilowatt-peak is the amount of power a photovoltaic array (group of solar panels) delivers at Peak Power in Standard Test Conditions (STC), whereby the radiation density equals 1 kw/m² and the photovoltaic cell temperature equal 25 C. Solar PV systems sizes are measured in kwp. WHAT CAN AFFECT THE AMOUNT OF SOLAR ENERGY RECEIVED? The level of solar energy depends on geographic location, time of day, time of year, weather and shading. System locations and feasibility are assessed for all solar installations. Years of weather data and experience has made it easier to accurately predict the output of a PV system under most conditions. DOES THE SYSTEM REQUIRE BATTERIES? For a Grid-Connected (or Grid-Tied) PV system, the solar-generated power is connected in parallel with the power grid and therefore batteries are not required. Grid-connected systems effectively use the electricity grid as a storage system, which means if you are generating more power than you consume, the excess power flows into the grid. WHAT ARE PEAK SUN HOURS (PSH OR SOLAR INSOLATION)? Peak Sun Hours is the hours of maximum sunshine. The technical term is called Solar Insolation. It is defined as the amount of time that the solar irradiance is at 1 kw/m 2. In the case of Bangkok, Thailand, the average annual Peak Sun Hours is 5.23 hours. This is data obtained NASA Langley Research Center Atmospheric Science Data Center (2011). In Bangkok the Peak Sun Hours (Solar Insolation) is detailed below: Variable Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Average Insolation (kwh/m²/day) Source:
HOW ARE PEAK SUN HOURS DIFFERENT FROM SUN ENERGY YIELD HOURS? We normally use an energy yield derating factor of 0.70this is to account for other losses such as PV module conversion, tilt angle, orientation, cable, inverter conversion and dust/particulates etc. In the case of Bangkok, the average peak sun hours are 5.23hrs. With an energy yield derating factor of 0.7, the effective energy yielding hours is 5.23x0.7 = 3.661hrs. The hours are a conservative estimate. HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY WOULD A 20kWp SYSTEM GENERATE? Based on the sun energy yield hours, a 20kWp system will generate kwh per day in Bangkok. (20 kwp x energy yield = 73.22kWh). This works out to be 2227 kwh per month. WHAT IS THE THAILAND FIT (FEED IN TARIFF) PROGRAM? Feed-In Tariffs (also known as FITs) are the electricity part of what some people call Clean Energy Cashback, a scheme that pays people for generating their own "green electricity". On July 16 th, 2013 the National Energy Policy Commission (NEPC) approved a new FITscheme for Thailand. Under the new ThaiFIT program, houses & businesses who install renewable energy generating facilities (solar panels) can sell their solar electric power to the national power grid at very attractive rates. Solar installations are guaranteed to receive FITcashback for 25 years. Tables below show the ThailandFIT rates for Solar Power: FIT Rates for Solar Power (System Size) Rates Guarantee Period 0 10kWp THB years kWp THB years kWp THB years For example, a 20kWp system will be eligible for a rate of THB 6.55 per kwh of electricity it generates. Therefore, using the above figures a 20kWp system will generate THB 480 worth of electricity per day on average or THB 175,050 per year. (73.22kWh per day x 6.55 FIT rate x # of days) WHAT IS THE PAYBACK PERIOD? WHAT IS THE RETURN OF INVESTMENT? Due to the new government FIT rates, the payback period and ROI is now very attractive for Home and Business owners. The payback period varies from 8 to 10 years and depends on the following parameters:
Location in Thailand Different geographical areas in Thailand have varying levels of sunshine. For example, areas like Chiang Mai or Chanthaburi have higher average cloud cover than other provinces and therefore, the output form the solar modules will be slightly less thus affecting the payback period. Inverter Preference Choosing a higher quality European made inverter will affect the payback period due to higher initial investment cost. System Size As the FIT rates vary by system size, this is also a factor in working out the payback period. For more information on system costs and payback period please contact our sales team and we will prepare a free estimation. WHATIS THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THE SYSTEM? As the investment is dependent on continued function of the system it is important to have a quality installation and use of quality components. Grenzone have been working closely with wellknown, tried and tested equipment manufactures to provide a high quality system with great warranty periods for peace of mind for your investment. Installation Workmanship Warranty We are confident in the quality of our installations and therefore offer a 5 year warranty on workmanship Solar Modules 25 year warranty to produce 80% of rated output from the manufacture. Inverters Standard warranty for inverters is 5 years but 10 years can be purchase as an optional extra. Mounting Structure The mounting structure is covered by a 12 year manufactures warranty. HOW MUCH ROOF SPACE IS REQUIRED? Depending on the layout of the roof, as a basic rule of thumb 1kWp of solar modules needs approximately 10m2 of roof space.
I M INTERESTED IN GETTING A PV SYSTEM FROM GRENZONE WHAT DO I DO? The first step is to contact our sales team. We can issue you with a quick estimation of price and payback period based on your location, budget/system size, roof type and inverter preference. If you like the estimate and want to proceed, Grenzone engineers will access the site to check and make sure there is no special equipment required, the space is suitable and there are no accessibility issues. Once the engineers have reviewed the site, Grenzone will issue a formal quote. There will be a small fee charged for this, however if you decide to proceed, this amount will be refunded off the purchase price.
