37 Air Scour Aeration Strategy System Influent Condition Aeration Mode Description No Flow Stand-By Aeration is used only to periodically mix the membrane tanks to ensure that no settling occurs. Moderate Flows Intermittent Aeration is applied to one train at a time. The full design air flow for one train is directed to each train sequentially to a maximum of four trains. This is both the most energy efficient and most used aeration mode. Peak Flows Continuous Aeration is directed to all trains simultaneously. A portion (typically half) of the full design air flow is applied to each train. Aeration is interrupted to each train periodically to clean the aeration nozzles. 39 Chemical Cleaning As membranes produce water, a fouling layer forms on the membrane surface and the required filtration pressure (transmembrane) rises. Over time, this fouling layer will not be effectively removed by normal air scouring and backflush. Chemical cleaning of the module becomes necessary Two basic procedures are used: Maintenance Cleaning (MC) used to maintain the permeability Recovery Cleaning (RC) used to restore the permeability to original parameters 2012, Koch Membrane Systems, Inc.
