2 Office of the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship in Warsaw is a local authority partner in the Mazovia cluster in the THE ISSUE Project as well as a co-funder of the Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies NEREUS Association. Office of the Marshal, as a self-government has participating in many national and international projects in infrastructure, economy, environment. It also has a role of a leader in many co-funded projects.

3 Mazovia Voivodeship 35,6 km2 (11,4% Poland s area) over 5,2 mln people Settlement network consist of 85 cities whereas is the capital of the country - Warsaw with population over 2 mln inhabitants and main sub-regional areas with cities of Radom, Płock, Siedlce, Ostrołęka and Ciechanów.

5 Road network in Mazowieckie Voivodeship is almost km long Rail network is about 1700 km long with the biggest congestion in Warsaw metropolitan area

6 Very important element of transportation system is Warsaw Chopin International Airport, generating more than 40% of international air traffic passenger flow. In July 2012 a new airport - Warsaw Modlin Airport has been opened to serve charter flights and low cost airlines. 8 Office of the Marshal in cooperation with the cluster has identified 62 relevant actors in the areas of project interest - traffic, health and environment. 30 of them were regional and local authorities, 10 of them were scientific and research institutes and 22 were companies from private sector Mazovia Self-government has a great impact on every administrative decision taken in the region due to its functions

10 CITY COUNCIL OF WARSAW, OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Strategy of sustained development of transportation system in Warsaw to the year 2015 It assumed that despite growing private car use a key role in the transport system in Warsaw will be a rail public transport (commuter trains, tramways and subway), progress in areas like public transport, parking areas, city bicycle use, pedestrian flows, traffic management and road system. 11 CITY COUNCIL OF WARSAW, OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Strategy of sustained development of transportation system in Warsaw to the year 2015 Integration of ticket fares in the metropolitan area of Warsaw, together with unification of tickets for several carriers; Modernization of vehicles, low-floor buses and tramways; Privilege of public transport bus lanes; joint bus and tram stops; Reduction of private car use in some areas; Speed limitation through the construction of roundabouts and traffic thresholds; Intelligent systems for traffic management, firstly at about 40 intersections, but there are plans for next 120 main crossings within next 3 years. 14 MAZOVIA REGIONAL SANITARY-EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STATION IN WARSAW The State Sanitary Inspection is established to implement the tasks of public health, in particular by means of supervision over the conditions: The health of the environment; The health in the workplaces; The radiation safety; Teaching and education hygiene; Hygiene and passive recreation; Health of food, nutrition and objects; The hygiene and sanitation conditions.

16 KEY REGIONAL PRIORITIES -TRANSPORT The improvement of technical infrastructure quality, including the modernization of transport network. The development of basic (highways and motorways), regional (provincial/ voiovodeship roads) and local road network. The development of modern public transport system (urban and suburban), especially rail and regional bus transport supported by the traffic management systems, traffic surveillance and monitoring. 17 KEY REGIONAL PRIORITIES -TRANSPORT The improvement of quality and safety of transportation between Warsaw and the European metropolises, the main economic centres in Poland and other areas of the province. Adjustment of road and railway network of international importance to the European standards. The integration of transportation systems through creating the interchange nodes, P+R systems and stations modernization. Implementation of the new transportation investments in railway transport ( the development of railway network, underground systems, high-speed rail and light railway (WKD) systems.
