Land Spill or Leaks Some temporary irritation is possible from low levels of styrene monomer. Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water. Remove contact lens if safe to do so. Seek medical advice if irritation persists. Wash thoroughly with soap and water. Give large amounts of water or milk. If patient remains distressed seek medical advice. Remove patient to fresh air and observe until recovery. If patient becomes distressed or shows signs of breathing difficulty seek medical advice immediately. Fire Fighting Measures Combustible Carbon monoxide can be produced in significant quantitie in a fire involving bulk quantities of this material All forms of extinquishing media may be used. Standard firefighting protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus are advisable. 2YE Accidental Release Measures Small quantities may be shoveled up and disposed of as commercial waste. Large quantities (greater then 5 L) should be shoveled up into a waste container, labeled as hazardous waste contains styrene and disposed of by approved contractors to an approved landfill. Handling and Storage 3 Approved Handlers: This product does not require approved handlers Precautions for safe handling: Avoid skin contact and maintain strict cleanliness and good housekeeping. All spilled waste, contaminated paper and rags should be disposed of in a separate fireproof container situated outside of the work area. Decanting and mixing of UP resins should be carried out in separate well ventilated rooms to reduce the likelihood of styrene vapours drifting into adjacent work areas. Conditions for safe storage: This product must be isolated from organic peroxides and oxidizing substances. Contamination with these could initiate self ignition due to build up of heat in containers during unintentional curing.
