1 1 A selection of requirements in legislation regarding POPs, including limit values Submitted by the German Delegation The following table is a compilation of limit values from different legislation in and outside Germany. The limit values have been set for different purposes: Wastes containing or contaminated with POPs in a concentration higher than the limit value given are considered as hazardous and have to be disposed of according to the respective legislation. For special cases of material recycling lower limit concentrations have been established (e.g. wood, oil). Above the limit values, sewage sludge may not be used as fertilizer. Limit values given for feeding stuffs, foodstuffs, and soil have been chosen in order to minimize the daily intake of POPs. Above these values detailed checking or measures have to be carried out (identify a source of contamination and to take measures for its reduction or elimination).
