Novozymes Innovative & Sustainable Solutions for Grain Alcohol distillers
Sustainability Novozymes commitment For more than ten years, Novozymes has been recognized as one of the most sustainable companies in the world by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), which evaluates and ranks leading companies based on their sustainability performance.
Our purpose
AGENDA 1. PRODUCTS IN INDUSTRY 2. SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS 3. A CASE STUDY 4. PROCESS ENHANCEMENT PRODUCTS 5. UPCOMING PRODUCTS
LIQUEFACTION PRODUCTS Liquoflow Basic, Liquoflow Patented, protein-engineered technology Low calcium dependency doesn t require add-on s to improve stability Broad ph activity range (ph ) Liquoflow 4X Same technology as Liquoflow basic & Liquoflow More concentrated formulation offers better value Unmatched enzyme stability Ideal choice for large users or overcoming plant limitations
Saccharification products Saczyme Plus Saczyme Plus 2x Saczyme Pro Consistent fermentation performance Proven track record Lowest usage cost Consistently high ethanol yields Optimized component activities for more complete starch conversion Best-selling GA on the market today High ethanol yields Starch scavenger Most robust performance for variable mash conditions Converts the most difficult starch fractions * - Awaiting launch
Novozymes: Initiatives towards sustainability Operating Economics Products Sustainable Company Environmental Compliance Administration
Low ph Cooking using Novozym 25081
Novozym Broad ph range 4.7 to 6.0 Can work on as is basis ph, sustaining all the variations. Leads to complete or partial elimination of chemicals such as caustic and liquor ammonia. Allows effective processing of various types of raw materials such as rice, corn, millet etc. and also mixed feeds. Works on lower dosage of 0.4 kg/ton of starch. Works with as well as without jet cooking. Provides an opportunity to recycle additional quantity of thinslop, spent-lees, process condensate etc. Lowers or eliminates hazardous working conditions.
Steady state Novozym Raw material %DS Water Enzyme (0.4 kg/t Starch) ph (adjusted) Peak viscosity(cp) Final viscosity (cp) Brown Rice 32 PRC, RC and Process condensate NZ
Steady state Novozym Raw material %DS Water Enzyme (0.4 kg/t Starch) ph Peak viscosity(cp) Final viscosity (cp) Sorghum 32 PRC, RC and Process condensate NZ
NPC or No Jet cook Process Single point of steam inlet Uniform temperature of cooking throughout liquefaction section (85 0 C 88 0 C) Do not require to maintain the steam pressure at jet cooker or at outlet of holding coil Single point of enzyme dosing in liquefaction section No changes in infrastructure needed Can operate at high DS also as normal process Works with various raw materials
ETHANOL PRODUCTION FROM DRY MILLING CORN/MILO RECEIVING CO 2 CORN/MILO STORAGE HAMMERMILL ETHANOL DEHYDRATION MOLECULAR SIEVES JET COOKER FUEL ETHANOL MASH COOKING ENZYME LIQUEFACTION FERMENTATION BEER COLUMN RECTIFIER SIDE STRIPPER ETHANOL STORAGE DENATURANT STORAGE STILLAGE CENTRIFUGES STILLAGE EVAPORATION DDGS DRYING DDGS DWGS
Benefits of NPC Ensures steam/energy savings in grain alcohol operation Delivers infrastructure savings Prevents thermal breakdown of the free sugars and subsequent formation of unwanted Maillard products Improves DDGS/DWGS quality due to low temperature cooking
Novozymes R&D Novozymes R&D innovates closely with customers and partners to create superior results. By investing 14% of our revenue in R&D, Novozymes stays on the cutting edge of innovation. Our worldwide R&D community allows us to develop solutions that meet both global and local needs. Example of sustainability using No-jet cook process and low ph cooking Novozymes R&D: creates impact for our customers advances industries paves the way for a brighter future
Benefits of NPC and Low ph cooking Typical cost benefit analysis with NPC & Low ph cooking for 100 KLPD grain alcohol unit Steam saved by switching off jet cooker MT/day Caustic savings using Novozym KG / Day Steam cost INR / MT Caustic Lye cost INR / Kg Steam savings INR / day Chemical savings INR / day Total savings INR / day Cost of existing enzymes INR / day Cost of new enzymes INR / day Net savings INR / day Additional benefits of yield increase & improvement in DDGS quality Based on trial outcome Process Products used Dose Liquefaction Novozym Kg/MT of Starch Saccharification Saczyme Pro Kg/MT of Starch * Savings data shown here is typical and can vary from plant to plant based on raw material and other variables. The actual savings can be identified by auditing and trials only.
Other Process Enhancement enzymes Viscozyme Provia Olexa Used with non-corn and non-rice feedstocks such as wheat, sorghum, millets Reduces viscosity allowing higher DS (dry solids) content Improves throughput and lowers energy consumption Improved yeast nutrition through better amino-acid availability Increased conversion efficiency of protein-bound starch Reduced chemical costs for nitrogen addition Protease Increased ethanol production due to reduction in glycerol production Olexa releases bound oil to significantly increase corn oil yields * - Awaiting launch * - Awaiting launch
NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH Novozym Industry leading, yield- enhancing liquefaction Goes deep with advanced starch hydrolysis technology Trouble-free viscosity at a ph as low as 4.8 Up to 1-2% more ethanol 2% less energy Spirizyme Achieve The industry s first fiber-degrading glucoamylase Goes deep to extract fiber-bound starch Release bound starch from beneath the cell wall 1%- 2 % more ethanol 3% less energy
