1 Sustainable Development Goals September 2015 Building on the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the 17 Sustainable Development Goals with 169 targets to be achieved by 2030, were formally launched on the 25 th September The pledge made by governments around the world is to leave no one behind, focusing of addressing the travesty of poverty, the restoration of the planet and shared prosperity for all. Ensure access to nutritious and sufficient food for all End all forms of malnutrition, especially for vulnerable groups (under 5s, pregnant / lactating women, older people) Double agricultural production and ensure access to land and resources Enable sustainable, resilient and ecological safe agricultural practices Maintain stocks of diverse seeds, plants and domestic livestock and ensure access for all Commitment to increase investment to enable the above Commitment to correct and prevent trade restrictions Commitment to adopt proper functions of food commodity markets Reduce global maternal mortality to to less than 70 / live 100,000 births End preventable deaths of new-borns and under 5 s (neonatal deaths: less than 12 / 1,000 live births; under 5 s deaths: less than 25 / 1,000 live births) End epidemics: AIDS.
