1 Personal Protective Equipment To purchase personal protective equipment from AgriSafe Network Call: 1(866) Choosing adequate protection from the multiple hazards in production agriculture can be a difficult process. This document includes basic Personal Protective Equipment items for Head to Toe Protection. Additional items not shown in this document can be ordered upon request. 2 Important things to know: Respiratory Protection Select a respirator that is NIOSH approved. Particulate filters & pre filters designation according to oil degradation resistance N = not for use in presence of oil mist R = some resistance to oil mist P = for use where oil mist present ( oil proof ) Designation according to filter efficiency 95 = moderate filtering efficiency (95%) 99 = high filtering efficiency (99%) 100 = highest filtering efficiency (99.97%), comparable to HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter Examples: N95: cannot be used in presence of oil mist, has 95% filter efficiency. P100: can be used if oil mist present, 99.97% filter efficiency Hearing Protection Sound is measured in units of decibels (db). The higher the decibel (db) levels the louder the noise. Continual exposure to noise levels about 85 db may cause permanent damage to hearing. NRR or Noise Reduction Rating is a measurement of how effective hearing protection devices (like ear plugs or muffs) are at reducing noise exposure. Hearing protection devices are labeled with an NRR rating. To obtain the best hearing protection chose hearing protection that has a high NRR rating and is also comfortable for you to wear. Eye Protection Select safety glasses or goggles that meet ANSI Z87.1 NIOSH Standard. When exposed to sun, sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB light. Hand Protection Precautionary statements on pesticide labels state whether waterproof or chemical resistant gloves are required. Your glove size should be the same as your hand measures in inches around your palm.
