On Augut 19, 1999, the US Environmental Protection Agency publihed the final ruling requiring every community water ytem (CWS) to prepare and provide cutomer an annual conumer confidence report (CCR). Thi rule wa mandated by the 1996 amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act. A CCR i a report card for cutomer on the quality of the water delivered by the water ytem. The following i the Town of Belmont Conumer Confidence Report for What i the water quality of my drinking water? We are pleaed to report that our drinking water i afe and meet or exceed Federal and State requirement. What i the ource of my water? The water that upplie Belmont come from three gravel packed well located on the Town owned parcel Map 242, Lot 31 on Shaker Road in the area of Pout Pond. GPW 3 came online January 2011 and i an outtanding quality of water ource. The water from Well #3 i treated with a 25% olution of Cautic Soda to raie the ph from a natural 6.5 to a neutral 7.1. We alo treat for Iron and Manganee with a equetering agent of Ortho- Polyphophate. Thi keep any unpleaant color or taining from occurring. The iron level of 0.05 i o low we have been able to reduce the level of treatment ubtantially at a cot aving to the Department. Well #1 and #2 are exercied on a monthly bai and are in a backup role only. Why are contaminant in my water? Drinking water, including bottled water, may reaonably be expected to contain at leat mall amount of contaminant. The preence of contaminant doe not necearily indicate that water poe a health rik. More information about contaminant and potential health effect can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Hotline ( ). How can I get involved? The Belmont Water Department i under the direct uperviion of the Public Work Director Jim Fortin and the Board of Selectmen. Jim Fortin i the operator of the water ytem and Donald Hurd provide day-to-day overight of any maintenance and repair need. Any emergencie or pecific inquirie about our drinking water hould be referred to the Water Department at The Water Department i located at Town Hall. We are pleaed to report thi year that Phae I of the Village Water Line Replacement project i complete; Phae II will be concluded thi ummer. Additionally the Town will be conducting a Town-wide Water Meter Replacement project in Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated during thi project. You will be contacted by the Town or a contractor of it chooing to et up the intallation of the new meter. The Town will receive funding aitance for the project through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund. The Town alo received a grant in early 2014 to develop an Aet Management program for the Water Department. Your Water Department ha been very pro-active in the pat 3-year to improve infratructure and plan for the future need of the community. Do I need to take pecial precaution? Decription of Drinking Water Contaminant: The ource of drinking water (both tap water and bottled water) include river, lake, tream, pond, reervoir, pring,

Organic chemical contaminant, including ynthetic and volatile organic chemical, which are by-product of indutrial procee and petroleum production, and can come from ga tation, urban torm water runoff, and eptic ytem. Radioactive contaminant, which can be naturally-occurring or be the reult of oil and ga production and mining activitie. In order to enure that tap water i afe to drink, EPA precribe regulation which limit the amount of certain contaminant in water provided by public water ytem. The United State Food and Drug Adminitration (FDA) regulation etablih limit for contaminant in bottled water which mut provide the ame protection for public health.
