1 OVERVIEW Use these Water Saver Songs to help reinforce to your students the importance of water in all our lives. This lesson can be done prior to beginning the other lessons or as a follow-up to the seven-day lessons already presented. These songs may also be spread out throughout the seven days of the program by having the students sing one song each day. Have fun!! OBJECTIVES TEKS objectives that will be addressed in this section include: Science 7.C, 9.B; Social Studies 7.C, 9.B Completion Time 45 minutes Materials 1. Water Saver Songs CD 2. Collection of blue materials which may include: scarves, pillowcases, cloth napkins, towels, sheets, etc. 3. Wally the Waterdrop Student Sheet (enough copies for each student) Water Saver Songs This CD includes: What is an H 2 O Hero Wally the Water Drop H 2 O Agua is Vida Water is a Wonderful Thing Do it for the Aquifer What is an H 2 O Hero? 1. 2 2. Ask your students these questions: What is an H 2 O (water) Hero? According to the song, what are some things a water hero does? (Protects the river, respects the aquifer, educate other people, do what is right, be a water saver, turns off the water, takes short showers, waters in the early hours, don t throw trash in water, fix a leaky faucet, catch water in a bucket when you wash your car, turn off the water while brushing your teeth). 3. Log on to 2 OHeroes 4. After finding the Kindergarten Section of this web site, download the Using Water Wisely and The Unclean Stream student worksheets. 5. Ask the students to complete the activities on the worksheets and color the pages when completed. Discuss with them that H 2 O Heroes are boys and girls just like them who find ways to conserve (save) water and keep water from becoming polluted (dirty). Wally the Water Drop 1. Wally the Water Drop (Lyrics) Wally Wally Wally he s a water drop Wally Wally Wally says you better stop Wasting that water wasting that good good stuff You know that Wally is a water drop He s not a drip he s oh so tough oh so tough (Repeat) Hero Talk As an H 2O Hero, what is one thing you plan to do tonight to help save water? 2. Make copies of the Wally the Water Drop student sheet (one for each student). 3. Have students draw a picture of what they believe Wally looks like. Have them draw Wally so that the text bubble is coming from his mouth. 4. Have the students take the photo home and hang up somewhere to remind them and their family to save the good stuff. H 2 O Aerobics 1. Listen to the song, H 2 O. Listen to the song again but this time, have the students march in place while making hand motions to each letter. H- Have the students stand with their legs apart and put their arms straight up over their head forming an H 2- Have the students put up two fingers and bend their body to make it look like the number two O- Have the students curve their arms over their heads with their fingers touching to form an O Agua is Vida 1. Begin by listening to the song, Agua is Vida. Ask the students to complete the activities on the worksheet and color the pages when completed. Discuss with them that H 2 O Heroes are boys and girls just like them who find ways to conserve (save) water and keep water from becoming polluted (dirty). Moving with the Flow 1. Collect things made of blue material such as scarves, pillowcases, cloth napkins, towels, sheets, etc. 2. Give each student one piece of the blue material 3. Play the song, Water is a Thing found on your CD 4. As the song plays, each student should move in time with the music waving their blue material. If the music goes fast, move the material fast. If the music is slow, move it slow. If the music is soft, make small, calm motions. It it is loud, make big seeping motion. 5. Have the students look around during the movement to see if it reminds them of water. Ask them, Do your movements look like rivers, lakes, oceans or the rain? Discuss.
