1 Isopar Exxsol D High-performance fluids for decorative coatings

2 Create and maximize value with Exxsol D and Isopar fluids An improved way to color your world For decorative trims and panels, your customers want a high-gloss coating that colors and protects while maintaining ease of application. Additionally, they want improved personal health and safety. Exxsol D and Isopar fluids rise to this challenge. High value performance Water-based gloss technologies can be expensive, yet may fail to meet customer expectations. Exxsol D and Isopar fluids are used to formulate decorative paints that maximize customerdesired performance and value including: Gloss Brushability Durability while providing lower odor, improved safety, and lower environmental impact than formulations based on traditional solvents. A practical position on VOCs If considering product-based regulations, it s important to recognize the fact that not all VOCs are the same VOCs can vary significantly in their potential to react with NOx and create ground-level ozone. Paints and coatings formulated to minimize ozone generation rather than a simple lower VOC formulation can provide a more targeted improvement to air quality. 3 Exxsol D fluids Exxsol D fluids are dearomatized fluids that have the right solvency characteristics and drying rate for decorative applications. Exxsol D fluids are available in a range of products to suit your needs. Features Low odor Lower potential for exposure than mineral/white spirits Consistent quality performance Compatible with existing resin systems Very low aromatics content Range of viscosities available Much lower VOC reactivity compared to traditional solvents Benefits Comfortable painting environment Improved worker protection and comfort significantly higher occupational exposure limits and lower risk of overexposure to vapor Retains solvent-based coating features (gloss, durability, brushability) Easy-to-apply formulations No need to rely on specialty additives to generate high-gloss paints More flexibility for producers Creates ability to formulate for a range of applications Potential for creating low-ozone generating coatings ExxonMobil fluids Traditional solvents Performance Exxsol D products* Mineral spirit / white spirit* Occupational exposure limit (mg/m 3 ) Vapor hazard ratio (VHR) 2 12 (Exxsol D40) 43 (Varsol 40) Aromatic content (wt%) < 1% ~20% Odor 3 (Exxsol D40, D60, D80) Up to 30x lower odor Reference Regulations GHS labeling for environmental hazards None EU VOC 4 under EU decorative paint directive 5 Yes, except Exxsol D120 Yes USA Reactivity value smog-generation potential MIR 6 scale (g ozone/g VOC) Source for OELs of Exxsol D fluids and white spirit (Varsol 40): RCP - TWA - ExxonMobil data. 2 Vapor hazard ratio (VHR) is the ratio of the ability of the solvent to evaporate (represented by its saturated vapor concentration at 20 C) to the OEL. 3 Scaled ED50 levels. Test methods available on request. 4 VOC = Volatile organic compound. 5 EU directive 2004/42/EC (VOC in paints). 6 MIR = Maximum incremental reactivity. MIR values: William Carter, Updated Maximum Incremental Reactivity Scale and Hydrocarbon Bin Reactivities for Regulation Applications. Prepared for the California Air Resources Board, Contract Revised January 28, * Values and product names may vary by region.

4 Isopar fluids Isopar fluids are high-purity synthetic isoparaffins with extremely consistent quality. They are virtually odorless for a better painting experience. Features Virtually odorless Lower potential for exposure than mineral/white spirits Excellent product consistency and quality performance Compatible with resin systems Extremely low aromatics content Range of viscosities available Low VOC reactivity Benefits Odor comparable with water-based products Improved worker protection and comfort significantly higher occupational exposure limits and lower risk of overexposure to vapor Retains solvent-based coating features (gloss, durability, brushability) No need to rely on specialty additives to generate a new product Provides more flexibility for producers Creates ability to formulate for a range of applications and market needs Potential for creating low-ozone generating coatings ExxonMobil fluids Traditional solvents Performance Isopar products* Mineral spirit / white spirit* Occupational exposure limit (mg/m 3 ) Vapor hazard ratio (VHR) 2 10 (Isopar G) 2 (Isopar L) 43 (Varsol 40) Aromatic content (wt%) < 0.1% ~20% Odor 3 (Isopar L, G, H, M) Virtually odorless, up to 60x lower odor Reference Regulations GHS labeling for environmental hazards None EU VOC 4 under EU decorative paint directive 5 Yes, except Isopar V Yes USA Reactivity value smog-generation potential MIR 6 scale (g ozone/g VOC) Source for OELs of Isopar fluids and white spirit (Varsol 40): RCP - TWA - ExxonMobil data. 2 Vapor hazard ratio (VHR) is the ratio of the ability of the solvent to evaporate (represented by its saturated vapor concentration at 20 C) to the OEL. 3 Scaled ED50 levels.
