INTRODUCTION With a vision to reduce carbon footprints in the environment as well transforming into a self-sufficient producer & consumer of Carbon Disulphide (CS 2 ), Indofil Industries Limited, Mumbai, India entered into a joint venture with Shanghai Baijin Chemicals Group Company Ltd. (SBC), Shanghai, China and formed Indo Baijin Chemicals Pvt. Ltd. (IBJ). Indofil Industries Limited is a company from K.K. Modi Group of India an Industrial Conglomerate with diverse businesses in the Agro Chemicals, Fine Specialty Chemicals, Entertainments, Healthcare etc. Indofil Industries Limited is uniquely placed both in Agriculture chemical as well as Specialty and Performance chemical business. In India, Indofil is successful in strategic marketing of insecticides including Fungicides, Bactericides, Herbicides, Acaricides, Surfactants and Plant growth regulators. Indofil is working for betterment of farmers, operating in Indian Market for more than 4 decades. INDOFIL is an ISO and ISO Company and famous for excellence in product quality. Indofil have stringent safety regime and an ability to handle hazardous chemicals such as carbon disulphide. Shanghai Baijin Chemicals Group Co. Ltd., China was established in With Carbon Di-sulphide production as the major business, Baijin group, consistently extending the industrial chain of fine chemicals, chemical fibers, coke chemicals as well as endeavoring in international trade, technical export and R&D, is a group company with the largest production scale, the most complete technical processes and latest technologies. Shanghai Baijin Chemical Group Co. Ltd., has a total asset of 2.6 billion Chinese Yuan and 8 subordinates. The company also owns 14 proprietary patents and is applying 2 international patents at present. Successively, 7 carbon disulfide manufacturing plants in Shanxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Xinjiang, Anhui, Shandong, and Jiangsu respectively have been established, with an annual output of 3,50,000 tons. The joint venture has put up a world class manufacturing plant facility for producing 50,000 TPA of CS 2 by using Natural Gas as a basic raw material, at Z-7/1 & Z-8/Part, Dahej SEZ, Tal: Vagra, Dist: Bharuch, Gujarat, India. IBJ is the leading manufacturer of CS 2 in India and the first of its kind in India to use Green Technology. Most of the existing CS 2 plants in India are based on the old charcoal based technology, which has adverse impact on the environment. By adopting Green technology, deforestation of 58 km 2 per annum is being avoided by this plant; thus qualifying for 25,000 tons of carbon credits. IBJ has maintained Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) scheme. Sulphur recovery efficiency is being 99.9 %, highest achieved in India till date in such plants. This plant is one of the safest plants, due to latest technology, innovative approaches and employee involvement in safety practices. IBJ started its commercial operations in April, 2014 and in a very short span of time, has emerged as one the world's best and most preferred CS 2 manufacturer and supplier at both Domestic & International Markets. IBJ s last two years journey since start-up in the Year 2014 are mentioned below: IBJ has been able to reach to the market share of 60% in domestic market from Zero With the best available technology and efficient operations, IBJ has been able to compete with other Domestic Charcoal based manufacturers The door delivery concept of IBJ has been widely appreciated in Domestic Market as they are ensuring the safety of CS 2 transportation IBJ has obtained ISO 9001:2008 (Quality System), ISO 14001:2004 (Environment System), BS OHSAS 18001:2007 (Safety System) from TUV NORD during its first year of operation itself. IBJ has obtained Environmental Clearance (EC) from Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC) vide letter no: J 11011/301/2011 IA II (I) dated 24 th December, 2012 and Consolidated Consent & Authorization (CC&A) from Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) vide letter no: GPCB/BRCH-B-CCA/ID-38306/ dated 9 th October, 2014 which is valid up to 1 st April, It is mandatory to submit six monthly compliance reports on the conditions mentioned in the point B (xiv) of EC vide letter no: J 11011/301/2011 IA II (I) dated 24 th December, 2012 issued by MoEFCC, Govt. of India, New Delhi. The consultancy firm has its own well equipped laboratory i. e. Ecosystem Resource Management Pvt. Ltd. to measure the pollution parameters related to Environmental Monitoring (Air, Water, Wastewater, Soil) with National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) accreditation. Six monthly compliance report along with monitoring data are regularly submitted to the concerned department and during monitoring period of this report RO visit has been conducted. OBSERVATION & RECOMMENDATION Industry has provided separate entry and exit gates for the smooth traffic movement throughout the entire premises. Industry has adopted & maintained zero industrial effluent discharge (ZLD) scheme. Company has provided 16,501 m 2 area for greenbelt. Company maintains medical report of each employee. During visit it is observed that industry has installed online stack monitoring analyzer. It is recommended to provide rain water harvesting system. It is recommended to carried out CSR activities regularly within project area It is recommended to provide minimum four to five ambient air monitoring locations within project premises.
