The Nature of Solar Energy Solar Energy is measured in units of heat called British Thermal Units (Btu) or Watts (W). Solar Energy is made up of various wavelengths which can be classified into: - Invisible Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, visible Light, or Invisible near Infrared (NIR) heat.

Heat Transfer Methods CONDUCTIVITY occurs when energy (heat)passes through from one object to another (each object has a different heat temperature from another) RADIATION occurs when energy (heat) is sent through the space and is capable of travelling to a far object where it can be reflected, absorbed or transmitted. CONVECTION occurs because of the upward movement of warm light air currents which are in touch with other objects (air currents take heat from warmer objects or give heat to colder objects)

The trend in Ug values a contribution to environmental protection - Burning of petroleum causes pollution, harming the environment - Introduction of alternative energies is slow - Modern standard: double insulating glass : Ug value = 1.1 W/m²K - Low U-value for glass reduce energy consumption, helping the environment - Warmer window panes enhance home comfort

GUENIS Architectural Glass GUENIS Sunscreen solar control glass provides good sun protection by minimizing the transmission of solar energy; neutral or tinted Color reflection GUENIS Thermal Low-E glass Reduces heat loss through the glass surface, resulting in a low U-value GUENIS Reflective Low-E glass (combi) Provides good sun protection and thermal protection

Coating on surface 2 Provides good sun protection Combined with thermal protection Reflective Low-E coatings: -Super Low-E -Mega Low-E -Ultra Low-E -Gega Low-E -Double Silver Low-E These products are designed for defined light transmission and SC plus: -high selectivity -Low light reflection -High color rendering index -Superior color neutrality

ANTI- REFLECTIVE GLASS

Anti-reflective Glass Antireflective or anti-reflection (AR) coating is a type of optical coating applied to the surface of glass to reduce reflection. Premium quality glass offers unparalleled design possibilities, superior clarity and renowned durability. AR Glass can be tempered, bent, laminated, in addition to various edgework applications. Adopting advanced magnetron vacuum coating technology, the Nano optic multilayer film is coated on the glass surface, thereby enhancing the transmissivity of glass from 89% to more than 96%, and reflectivity from 8% to less than 2%,for example, four layers of AR film on both glass surfaces, Improve transmissivity to over 98%, and reduces reflectivity to less than 1%.

Oxides Anti Reflective uses a multi layer thin film coating which is applied to the glass in a vacuum atmosphere with magnetron sputtering technology. The individual layers are metal oxides and therefore do not corrode. They are hard and durable. The top layer is quartz-like protective layer, which allows the glass to be handled easily. It also makes it ideal for exterior and high maintenance areas. Laminated Security Glass The production of laminated security glass requires onesided AR coating. The uncoated surface will be towards the interlayer or resin, while the anti-reflective coated surface will be towards the <<outside>> (or air). The result is <<a>> laminated double side coated.

Anti-reflective as tempered or heat strengthened glass Anti-reflective glass can be processed, tempered or heatstrengthened by a certified processing partner. The standard glass thickness in which anti-reflective glass is tempered or heat strengthened are 3 to 12 mm. Environmental durability and abrasion resistance The multilayer coting of metal oxides, especially the quartz-like protective layer, are the basis for the durability and environmental resistance of antireflective glass. In terms of abrasion, anti- reflective glass resistance is comparable to regular clear float glass.

Anti Reflective Glass as curve glass (annealed, tempered or laminated) Anti reflective glass can be processed and bent by a certified processing partner. The curved glass can be annealed, tempered or laminated. The available Radii of curvatures (ROC) and individual glass thicknesses are dependent on the anti reflective glass partners equipment and have to be enquired on a case by case basis. Anti Reflective Glass as laminated security glass (interlayer or resin) Anti reflective glass can be processed into laminated or bullet resistant glass. Either interlayers like PVB, EVA etc. or resin can be used. One (1) side coated AR is used for the outer lites (antireflective coating towards outside or air, uncoated surface towards interlayer or resin), while the inner glass lites are uncoated. Usually laminated glass (interlayer) is kept in stock for thicknesses between 4.4 and 12.8mm, custom made thicker laminated glass is also possible.

Anti Reflective Glass as a double glazing Anti reflective glass can be double glazed. The best results will be achieved if all surfaces are antireflective coated or if one (1) surface has a low-e coting instead in order to get good energy conservation or solar reflective performance.

Glass that looks like no glass at all

Benefits: Minimal reflection - less than 0.5% per surface Improved light transmission - up to 97% Easy to clean and abrasion resistant - meets ISO standards Anti-reflective coating can be applied on one side or both sides of glass Neutral color in reflection with no color shift when viewed from any angle Suitable for post processing Can be combined with LOW-E and other functional coatings High durability Very high transmission - no visible reflection (less than 1%, compared to 9% with float glass) Reduction of unwanted reflection to provide a perfect view through glass

Typical Values

NIGHT VIEW GLASS

Night View Glass Highest visual comfort plus efficient solar control Reduction of the interior light reflection degree of up to 4% Clear and unhindered transparency also at darkness Impressive anti reflective views at night with reflective external appearance at day Efficient solar control with the external appearance of brilliant and aesthetic reflections The low overall energy transmittance offers active protection from heat radiation and effectively reduces the requirement of cooling power More interior comfort thanks to the thermal insulation coating Low-E, Ug value 1.1 W/m2K Night view is temperable and can be manufactured thus into toughened safety glass

To see and not be seen: The panorama glazing for the most beautiful views of the world. Traditional metallized films reflect equally both inside and outside, becoming mirror-like at night. With Night Vision films, you get to enjoy privacy in the daytime, while still being able to look through the film at night. Night view window films help block the sun s damaging UV rays, reduce glare and reject up to 72% of the sun s heat. These darker shaded films are designed to reject solar heat that is produced from visible light, while providing significant glare relief. They allow 15% to 35% of the natural light into your home.
