Installatin and Maintenance Instructins fr 3M Nmad Carpet Matting 4000, 5000, 6500, 8850 These instructins supersede any verbal r written instructins frm Mats Inc. representatives, and must be fllwed in rder fr the warranty t be in effect. Delivery Accept delivery f materials nly if they are in unpened, undamaged packaging that bears the name and brand f the manufacturer r supplier, prject identificatin, and shipping and handling instructins. Strage Nmad matting shuld be remved frm shipping packaging, unrlled t lay flat and acclimatized in installatin area whenever pssible. Reverse rlling the prduct ften times aids in relaxing the rll memry f the prduct. Rm, flr cvering and adhesive must be at a temperature r 70 F degrees fr 24 hurs prir installatin. If material is flattened r distrted during strage r transprting, d nt attempt t install it. Materials and Accessries Required Cnsult the apprpriate Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) fr prper handling f accessries. This step will ensure the matting acclimates t the climate prperly. 2. Carefully measure the area t determine which directin t place the matting t reduce the number f cuts required and t minimize the amunt f material waste. If pssible, avid very small pieces. 3. Use a utility knife and a straight edge fr cutting. D nt use scissrs. 4. If it is necessary t mve the matting after cutting, rll it lsely t avid stretching. Carefully measure the recessed well t determine which directin t place the matting t reduce the number f cuts required and t minimize the amunt f material waste. If pssible, avid very small pieces. 3. Use a utility knife and a straight edge fr cutting. D nt use scissrs. 4. Place the relaxed mat flat side dwn against ne edge f the well withut stretching it. Frce as much matting as pssible int the well and wrk material int place with hands r feet. 5. Place sectins int the well until the well is filled. 6. Allw 1/4 (6mm) f extra material per ft. Example: recessed well is 6 feet lng. The matting shuld 6 feet 1-1/2 inches lng. 7. Cut the last edge using a utility knife and a straight edge. Cut the mat while it is in the well t minimize mvement. Frce the extra material int the well. If it buckles yu may need t cut ff a small prtin n the edge. 8. It may be necessary t cut the last sectin f matting t the exact width required. T d this, measure and mark the matting. Cut the matting using a utility knife and a straight edge. Frce the last piece f matting int well. Instructins fr Seaming Matting 1. Befre seaming the matting, be certain that the matting is relaxed and nt stretched. Unrll the matting and allw it t relax and cme t rm temperature fr 24 hurs. D nt stretch matting when seaming. 2. Seams must be psitined s that, where pssible: They run the length f the area. Main traffic flw runs alng, rather than acrss, the seam. Natural light des nt strike acrss the seam. Are away frm areas subject t pivting traffic. Are nt perpendicular t drway penings. Maximum recmmended mat size after seaming is 80 sq.ft. 3. Place pieces f matting t be seamed side by side n a clean surface. Be sure the flat side is dwn n bth pieces t be seamed. Use pieces frm the same rll t assure clr shade is the same. Be certain that the matting is relaxed and nt stretched befre seaming. 4. Unrll seaming tape between the tw pieces f matting that are t be jined.

Psitin the tw pieces f matting n the seaming tape s that the edge f each piece cvers half the width f the tape. Be sure the tw pieces f matting tuch at the center f the tape but d nt verlap r buckle. 6. Fld back the edge f ne piece f the matting alng the full length f the seam. 7. When applying adhesive, wrk rapidly. Adhesive may cause wrinkling f the seaming tape if the matting is nt jined within 5 minutes f applying the adhesive. Apply adhesive in a cntinuus zig-zag pattern staying ¼ (6mm) frm the utside edge f the expsed half f the seaming tape. 8. Return the flded edge f the matting t the riginal psitin and apply mderate pressure t bnd the adhesive. 9. Fld back the ther piece f matting alng the entire length f the seam. 10. Apply 2 additinal beads f adhesive. The first bead shuld be applied alng the jint f the seaming tape and bnded matting material. The secnd bead shuld be applied in a zig-zag pattern ¼ (6mm) frm the utside f the expsed half f the seaming tape. 11. Return the flded back edge f the matting t the riginal psitin and press firmly. Push bth pieces f matting tgether t help assure a clse bnd. 12. Place a weight, such as a bard, alng the full length f the seam t assure a maximum strength bnd. Allw t dry at least eight hurs befre placing matting int service. Instructins fr Applying Edging t Matting 1. Befre applying edging, be certain that the matting and edging are relaxed and nt stretched. Unrll the matting and edging and allw them t relax and cme t rm temperature fr 24 hurs. D nt stretch matting when applying edging. 2. Apply edging t the ppsite side f matting where mst peple will walk. Recmmended maximum edge length is 12 feet (4 m). 3. Sides t be edged must be straight. Trim edges with a utility knife (nt scissrs) and a straight edge if necessary. 4. Cut length f edging t the same length as edge f matting. 5. Place edging flat n the flr, grved side up. 6. Apply 2 beads f adhesive, ne in a straight pattern fllwing the inside edge and the ther in a zig-zag pattern staying ¼ (6mm) frm edge. 7. Place the bttm side f the matting edge n tp f the edging flap cntaining adhesive and apply mderate pressure. 8. Place a weight, such as a bard alng the full length f the edging t assure a maximum strength bnd. Allw t dry at least 8 hurs befre placing matting int service. Clean Up and Final Finish

Keep all traffic ff flring fr 8 hurs t prevent indentatin while the adhesive sets. Wait 8 hurs befre ding initial cleaning r allwing rlling traffic r furniture n the flr. Maintenance Instructins Initial Cleaning Vacuum (with heavy-duty cmmercial vacuum) the flr t remve all dirt and grit. This is the single mst imprtant maintenance activity fr preserving the flr s appearance and perfrmance and typically the mst verlked and mitted. Daily Cleaning Use a heavy-duty cmmercial vacuum cleaner that features a rtary pwer brush r beater bar t remve deeply embedded dirt particles, especially in heavy traffic areas. Clean up dirt/debris frm flr (sweep, vacuum, damp mp, etc.) 5. Place matting back in service and vacuum tp surface f matting. a. Use a heavy-duty cmmercial vacuum cleaner that features a rtary pwer brush r beater bar t remve deeply embedded dirt particles, especially in heavy traffic areas. Matting prducts release mre sil when dry. Peridic Cleaning 1. Remve matting frm service. 2. Scrub matting using a brush with a lw faming general purpse cleaner. (Fr heavy grease buildup, use a water-based degreaser). 3. Flush matting with ht water and allw t dry flat befre placing it back int service. OR 1. Remve matting frm service. 2. Clean matting using a high pressure washer with a lw faming general purpse cleaner. 3. Flush matting with ht water and allw t dry flat befre placing it back int service. Deep Cleaning

Carpet Matting shuld be peridically deep cleaned by the Ht Water Extractin methd. Best results and quickest dry times will be achieved with a cmmercial truckmunted steam extractin machines. Extractin cleaning remves deeply embedded sils and shuld be perfrmed as needed, based n yur traffic cunt and sil level. A minimum quarterly extractin cleaning is recmmended fr high traffic applicatins, mre ften during winter mnths in traffic lanes. An alternative methd is t use a high pressure washer (i.e. at self-service car wash). After using high pressure washer, hang mat up. Wash mat thrughly with an allpurpse cleaning slutin. Rinse mat thrughly. Let mat dry befre returning mat t service area. As Needed Spt Remval: If a spill ccurs, use a clean absrbent clth r paper twel t absrb as much f the liquid as pssible. Spray the stained area with an all-purpse spt remver and rub the surface with a clean white clth. Turn the clth ften t a clean side. Grease r il based stains may require a citrus-slvent based spt remver. All-purpse and citrus-slvent spt remvers are available frm yur lcal janitrial supply distributr*. *Nte Always test spt remvers in an incnspicuus area f the mat. Gum Remval: Excess chewing gum shuld be scraped ff with a standard putty knife. Chewing gum residue may require use f a citrus-slvent based spt remver r a chewing gum freezing chemical (aersl) available lcally at yur janitrial supply distributr.
