3 Backgrounder Backgrounder Corporate History The purpose of the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation is to foster scientific and technological literacy throughout Canada by establishing, maintaining and developing a collection of scientific and technological objects, with special but not exclusive reference to Canada, and by demonstrating the products and processes of science and technology and their economic, social and cultural relationships with society. The Corporation fulfills its mandate through its operations and programs at three sites - the Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM), the Canada Aviation and Space Museum (CASM) and the Canada Agriculture Museum (CAgM). Canada Agriculture Museum s New "Energy Park" Scheduled to open July 1, 2011, the Canada Agriculture Museum will develop the city s first bilingual outdoor exhibition park. The 4500 sq. ft. Energy Park will explore energy use on Canadian farms by introducing visitors to renewable energy technology in action. Greening of Energy As part of the Greening of Energy National Challenge., this outdoor exhibition will show how technology for harvesting energy from renewable sources is changing in terms of both consumption and production of energy on the farm. Although visitors to the Canada Agriculture Museum show a high level of interest in the steps farmers are taking to reduce their consumption of fossil fuels, they demonstrate a low-level of knowledge on the subject. The new exhibit will introduce visitors to the main technologies being incorporated into the farm energy-mix while simultaneously giving them a basic outline of how these technologies work. It will stimulate learning through the interpretation of in-situ, functioning renewable energy technologies, as well as though audio material, text, photographs, props, and outdoor interactive experiences. The Key Message The visitor will learn how Canadian farmers are increasing their use of new and traditional technologies to harvest energy from renewable sources, and in doing so are increasing their energy efficiency, lowering their costs, and helping Canada reduce its carbon emissions. Target Audience Though this exhibit will offer enriching and engaging interactive learning experiences geared to both adults and children, it will specifically target the engagement of families and caregivers with young children.

4 Conceptual Approach Conceptual Approach The biggest challenge in designing the layout of the 4500 sq. ft. area designated for the Energy Park is the terrain which is basically situated on a steep hillside. In addition to this, there is a requirement for two entrances to control visitor circulation - one entrance from the playground area; and one from the Canada Agriculture Museum's main exhibit barn. Once inside the Energy Park, the visitor will be able to access different areas at random and still be able to tie the overall message together. The conceptual approach for the Energy Park is to create a spiral within the landscape design that delineates individual enclaves that focus on a particular messages about the uses of green energy on the farm. These individual interpretive areas are referred to as energy pods or "e-pods" with each one integral to the overall spiral -shaped garden. The overall design of this outdoor exhibit is: Organic in nature; Kinetic in a highly interactive manner; Energetic in look and feel; and Dynamic in message and content.

5 Branding Branding This brand logo has been created to symbolizes and interpret the spiral of energy and represents Energy Park's symbiotic melding of message, exhibitry and landscape. The spiral shape forms the letter "e" and incorporates the French accent aigu. The branding is Easy to understand Accessible bilingual Fun and energetic Shown below in the layout that includes title of site and slogan in bilingual format: A Family of Representative Icons As part of the branding for Energy Park, a series of icons depict each section: SECTION 1 Intro/Welcome and Acknowledgements Panel SECTION 2 Energy on the Farm SECTION 3 Wind SECTION 4 Sun SECTION 5 Biomass SECTION 6 Energy, the Farm & You
