AFR use at Dalmia Cement By Sanjay Jain AED Technical Services, Dalmia Cement Dalmia Cement Ariyalur Plant

Dalmia Cement - Brief introduction 2

Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited A sound corporate governance Corporate Vision To be a leader in building materials that evokes pride in all stakeholders through customer centricity, innovation, sustainability and our values. Fourth largest cement group in India Grew sales volume by 19% in FY Cement capacity growth - CAGR 23% over last five years Above 30% alternative raw material use - waste from other industries Partnering India s infrastructure demand with low carbon cement

Dalmia Cement Progression on Low Carbon Transition Overall, Indian cement Industry moderated its carbon footprint Dalmia Cement is one of the lowest carbon footprint cement producer in the world

Partnerships for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) First cement company to join RE 100 campaign Target to increase fourfold the percentage of renewable electricity consumption by 2030 from current levels Target to double the energy productivity by 2030 Target to become water positive by 2017 for cement plant operations (some plants already achieved this status) First cement company in India to join Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC)

Progress on AFR at Dalmia Cement 6

Dalmia Cement Progressing AFR use Solid waste :- Both high and Low CV solid waste are being utilized Liquid waste :- both organic and Inorganic origin liquid waste are being co-processed Waste feeding through coal route:- Sludges conforming to our Fuel mix are being fed to our coal route; Waste feeding through raw meal route We used about 30,000 tons of the alternative fuels in this financial year.

Dalmia Cement Progressing AFR use Share of industrial waste origin fuels to total fuel mix in % (including Petroleum Coke) Our progressive use of alternative raw material led the Clinker factor improvement to 9.7% in FY compared to FY The group level Clinker factor in FY was 0.58

Dalmia Cement Progressing AFR use Alternative fuels being used in DCBL Plants Organic Residue Liquid Semi Solid & Semi Liquid Rice Husk Saw Dust RDF MSW Paint Sludge Mango Shells Tire Chips Plastic Waste Wooden Chips Wood Bark

Dalmia Cement the way forward on AF utilization In addition to the current waste utilisation we are in the process of securing additional volumes and permits Developed dedicated technical teams as service providers to various Manufacturing Units Use of EPR plastic wastes at all strategic location across the group Use of high-quality RDF in our plants Targeting high CV Pharmaceutical waste, process waste from petrochemical Industries, waste streams of steel manufacturing, etc.

Building external conducive environment for high AFR use in cement industry 11

Building external conducive environment for high AFR use in cement industry Progress on regulatory framework Hazardous and other waste Management and Handling Rules 2016 Draft Guidelines on Co-Processing of Hazardous and other waste already circulated by CPCB Comments on the Draft has already been forwarded to the concerned regulatory officials for more clarity As per the draft guidelines Trial burns for the new waste streams to be done away with. New stack Emission rules for Co Processing to be followed.

Building external conducive environment for high AFR use in cement industry Further support needed Current fly ash utilisation in the country is only 50% of total generation and about 50% of this utilisation is attributable to cement industry. Thus, there needs to be strong policy intervention to increase fly ash utilisation in Cement Industry Acute challenge of securing long term good quality alternative fuels for cement kilns Proactive support of the MoUD and Urban Local Bodies needed to develop cement grade RDF fuel from MSW for the Industry Need to implement market based instruments such as polluter to pay principle for increased waste utilization
