4 Programme results (1) GHG inventory RESULTS Developed 9 studies >700 pages Involved 67 experts, 20 Norwegian experts un 7 experts from other countries Organized 21 events, Total number of participants >500 Improvement of Inventory system quality and policy evaluation Developed integrated data base for GHG emission calculation Developed projection modelling tool for agriculture sector Improvement of accuracy of data used in GHG calculations Digitalized soil maps of Latvia Assessed carbon stock in arable land and meadows and recalculated GHG emissions from deforestation Assessed GHG emissions in waste sector Enhanced knowledge and skills of experts Trainings on quality control and quality assessment procedures International experience exchange seminars on GHG emissions in agriculture sector, GHG Inventory systems, GHG calculations etc. 4

5 Programme results (2) Adaptation to Climate Change RESULTS 10 studies >1360 pages Involved 61 experts, 29 Norwegian experts and 6 other national experts 17 events were organized, total number of participants is more than 360 Latvia's climate change research Developed Climate change scenarios for Latvia up to 2100 and Climate analysis tool Climate Change risk and vulnerability assessment in 6 sectors: (1) landscape planning and tourism; (2) biodiversity and ecosystem services; (3) health and welfare; (4) agriculture and forestry; (5) construction and infrastructure planning; (6) civil protection and emergency assistance Development of the system of adaptation to climate change in Latvia Developed proposal for a climate change adaptation strategy Developed flood risk maps for the rivers Venta, Lielupe and Gauja river s pools districts Developed maritime spatial plan project 5

6 Programme results (3) GHG Emission Reduction Constructed 5 low energy buildings Library - Business Center in Aloja Museum of Science and Technology in Ventspils Sports halls - Ādaži, Nīca and Jelgava Heating energy consumption: does not exceed 15 kwh/m 2 /year Development of two energy efficient technologies Development of innovative biomass gasification technology for syngas extraction Development of energy efficient technology for polycrystalline silicon production 6

7 Programme results (4) Raising society s awareness and research RESULTS Developed 5 study modules, 6 training programs 13 publicity events and information campaigns 6 studies on climate change Training programs and study modules Number of trainee persons >1867 ~4,000 typed copies of training materials are distributed Study materials are available electronically to anyone Information campaigns About 6000 pupils participated in the creative activities, about 14,000 secondary school students and about 1600 teachers were informed 250 outdoor environmental posters throughout the territory of Latvia, at least 198,000 target audiences reached Web tool: Dabasdati.lv 1252 new users, added 99,504 nature and climate observations and sent 639 digital photos 11 TV series and radio broadcasts, 8 publications in newspapers Studies in the field of climate change For example, assessed impact of climate change on lakes in Latvia and the Baltic Sea Developed regional strategy for reducing GHG emissions and an interactive tool for the 5 largest cities in Kurzeme region Developed model of sustainable development for the sectors of Latvian economy 7
