16 Community Participation 1. The project is driven by the community via the PHP self-help approach. 2. The community led the development of the project from planning to implementation. This comes with its own challenges 16

17 Empowerment/Capacity Building Strategy 1. ieeeco is a self help development methodology that enables community driven components to be integrated into every facet of the development model. 2. Special focus on women development and management of various aspects of the process. 3. Training and learn by doing are critical aspects. 4. SMME development and support are also key aspects. 5. PEER the community as an equal partner in development 17

18 Project Successes/Innovations Thinking outside the box : Part 1 1. Launched integrated ieeeco awareness within normal Government procedures without any significant outside funding. 2. Partnership with Eskom DSM M&V to prove lower energy and water consumption Created link to Demand Side Energy Management projects in the region during Cape Energy Crisis Jobs created and additional training achieved.
