11 2.2 Present Situation and Issues on Solid Waste Management in Greater Malang Present situation In Indonesia, open dumping is discontinued by 2013, therefore, new approaches for waste management is sought out. Other issues to be solved - To develop a master plan on waste management - To promote waste sorting by citizens and awareness raising - To stop illegal dumping into river - Awareness raising and promotion efforts by government - Final disposal site - Environmental monitoring 11

12 2.3 Suggestion for improvement of solid waste management in Greater Malang Actions to be taken 1. Develop a solid waste management plan 2. Promote recycling and reuse 3. Prohibit illegal dumping into river 4. Collaboration between provincial government and city/municipal governments 5. Intermediate treatment such as incineration, composting, etc. 6. Final disposal site and landfill plan 7. Proper Implementation of environmental monitoring (water and air quality) 12

13 3.1 Overseas Cooperation Initiative in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Memorandum of Understanding on Key Areas in Cooperation Between Ho Chi Minh City and Osaka City, 7 July

14 3.2 Areas of Cooperation regarding Environment and Water Management Foster cooperation in environmental conservation, water supply, urban flood control, waste water treatment and solid waste management. Encourage the exchange of visits by experts and relevant officers to discuss matters of common interest, share experience and explore possibilities of cooperation in suitable project. Cooperate in human resources development in the areas of environmental conservation, water supply urban flood control, waste water treatment and solid waste management technologies. 14

15 3.3 Seminar on Integrated Waste Management in Ho Chi Minh City, 16 February 2012 Objective: Discuss how to promote the collaboration between Osaka City and Ho Chi Minh City on waste management. Program: - Policy dialogue session - Technical/Business session 15

16 3.4 Proposed Future Activities Osaka City will support Ho Chi Minh City in developing policies for waste management and 3Rs, such as a policy framework for integrated solid waste management with a detailed action plan. Osaka City will support capacity building of Ho Chi Minh City s staff. Osaka City will cooperate in identifying appropriate waste management and recycling technologies and their applications suitable for the current condition in Ho Chi Minh City. 16
