2 MARKET EXPLORATION PHILIPPINES On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the German- Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Philippinen) with support of German Water Partnership e.v. and German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV) is organizing a four-day business delegation regarding the modernization of the Philippine water infrastructure. The aim is to pave way for the bilateral relations of the Philippine and German small and medium size companies to build up a business opportunity and facilitate an entry in the Philippine market. The project is part of the BMWi Market Exploration Program for KMU 2016 and is promoted following an order of the Federal German Parliament. CONFERENCE: MODERNIZATION OF PHILIPPINE WATER INFRASTRUCTURE With more than 100 million inhabitants and a mean age of 23 years, the Philippines are an attractive market to the global economy. With a GDP growth of 6.9% in the first quarter of 2016, the country has the strongest economy of Asia. Together with the outsourcing sector as growth driver, revenues of more than 35 billion Euros could be recorded in An increasing demand for office buildings and a growing middle class, lead to a boom in the construction industry. In consequence of the country s rapid development, the water consumption rose. Half of the public expenditure goes into agricultural irrigation systems. Currently, the processing of agricultural products and the food sector are important and expanding segments, and constitute main water consumers. Besides the prospering industry, the growing population (annual growth rate of 1.6%) and at the same time an increasing urbanization (44.4% urban population with an urbanization rate of 1.3%) are core reasons for the ascending needs for water and appropriate infrastructure solutions. Especially, the sewage facilities are still insufficient. Only 5% of the population is connected to a wastewater system. Tuesday, 15 November 2016 New World Makati Hotel Conference: Modernization of the Philippine Water Infrastructure During the conference, these challenges will be addressed by the German small-and-medium size companies by sharing their technology and equipment as solutions for the modernization of Philippine Water Infrastructure.
