The session will contribute to economic growth, including job creations and how this can be enhanced to achieve Vision 2030 and SDGs. The seminar will explore contribution of water towards social development - with special reference to drought and emergency situations by analyzing recent trends and prospects. 2 Sub-Theme 2: Enhancing Sustainable Water and Sanitation Service Provision in Topic: Research Capacity Building and Communication Topic: Achieving Universal access in water services by 2030 Topic: Exploring nonconventional water sources for irrigation in Kenya Topic: Enhancing sector coordination and governance Topic: Alternative Rural Livelihoods and Water Resources Management The discussions will focus on knowledge generation and management, innovations and middle level skills required to achieve access to water and sanitation for all by Discussions will be centered on means and mechanisms for faster and sustainable realization of universal access to water and sanitation. The discussions will assess the different non- conventional water sources for irrigation and evaluate their relevance and appropriateness for increasing African Irrigation potential. The discussions will focus on assessing existing coordination and governance mechanisms with an aim of improving for effectiveness and sustainability. 3 Developing Countries Topic: Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) Topic: Innovative Water Resources Management Approaches and Sustainable Financing Topic: Tomorrow s Partnerships in Water Resources Today Topic: Who Speaks for our Water Resources Topic: Legislative Framework under Devolution in Kenya- This forum will discuss the notable PES mechanisms and incentives, existing supportive legal and regulatory framework for PES and the opportunities for replication in developing countries.. The discussions under this topic will bring out the various sustainable approaches applicable to improve financing for water resource management and its adaptability and the possibility of up-scaling in developing countries. This session will therefore focus on the partnerships and synergies that exists and which have successfully been implemented in undertaking water resources activities. This session will present some of the practical mechanisms that have been applied for effective water resource and catchment management and discuss the viable strategies for financing and managing trans-boundary water resources. The session will look at the Kenya water sector policy alignment to the constitution and its implementation between the two governments. 4 County Legislations and the Water Act 2016 Topic: Models for Serving the Underserved Topic: Water Credit: An innovative approach to financing Water and Sanitation access. Topic: Towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals Topic: Intermediate technologies for sustainable sanitation service delivery The session will share practical experiences in targeting of investments in the water sector to the most deserving segment of the populations thus striving to achieve equitable access to water and sanitation. This session will focus on new frontiers to water and sanitation microfinance for individuals, entrepreneurs and communities in developing countries who do not have access to traditional credit markets. This session will provide an opportunity for sharing of plans and strategies being put in place by the authorities towards fulfilling the country commitments made on the achievements of the SDG goals for the sector. 5 Topic: Building the case for Sanitation Business Topic: Rights based Approach to Water and Sanitation Topic: Ensuring access to adequate and safely managed sanitation- Approaches Topic: Establishing strong building Blocks at County and National level for sustainable water and sanitation for all. towards the achievement of sanitation SDG goals. This topic will discuss sanitation as a market for private businesses and how the private sector can invest in solutions by offering different sanitation products and services at appropriate prices This topic will focus on strategies and approaches that have been employed towards realization the human rights in wash and how trade and involvement of the private sector as well as the strengthening budget mechanisms in WSS especially sanitation can have been integrated in the approach. This session will share practical cases of approaches, policies and strategies that have demonstrated success towards the achievement of the right to basic sanitation This session will demonstrate the Ministry of Health and partners coordinating and collaboration structure through the Interagency Coordinating Committee (ICC) and the related Technical Working Committees. 6 Topic: Putting collaborative Behaviours into practice at County and National level for sustainable water & sanitation service provision This section will demonstrate the use of BCC, has been used effectively change the behaviour and practice of individuals and communities in health seeking behaviour 11:00-13:00 MOH Topic: Equity and Non Discrimination in Sanitation, Hygiene and Water - Investing in Hygiene and Menstrual Health Management More than half of the community members we work with (female population) experience menses at some point in their lives, understanding how to manage this otherwise purely biological phenomenon in a dignified and hygienic manner is key to in the nationwide promotion of sanitation and hygiene. 7 Sub-Theme 3: Business and Partnership Opportunities & Enabling Business Environment Topic: Matching Business challenges with technological solutions Topic: Opportunities for investing in the Kenyan Water Sector Topic: Results Based Financing in the Water Sector Topic: Public Private Partnerships for This forum aims to promote collaborations by the relevant water sector stakeholders in matching business challenges with innovative technological solutions that have been developed/ are under development for adoption and implementation in the near future in Africa and around the globe. This forum explores opportunities of doing business within the water sector and how to open the doors to a number of investment opportunities with companies that are providing new ways to supply, distribute, conserve and treat water and wastewater. This session will discuss the experiences of commercial financing of water and sanitation projects through the RBF program, the challenges and lessons learnt so far through case studies and the existing potential for new investments. This forum aims to identify partnership models, viable business/financing models and technological developments that are internationally acceptable and create more awareness of the role of business models in scaling-up water services technologies. This session will inform investors on the Kenyan tendering and procurement process and Public Procurement regulations. 9 Sub-Theme 4: Research Industry Innovation Nexus Topic: Appropriate Technologies for Water and Sanitation Services (WSS) Topic: Enhancing linkages between Research and Industry in the water sector Topic: Contribution of Research and Innovation to sustainable water sector development Topic: Application of Information Technology and Knowledge Development in the water sector Topic: Advancing Clean and Green Technologies in WSS The session will explore innovative systems, technologies and processes for WSS for quality and sustainable water and sanitation services. This forum will provide an opportunity for the participants to visualize constructive linkages between the research institutions, local industry and innovators and how to attract industrialists in upscaling outputs of research. This session will explore and assess how research has progressively provided the foundation for water sector innovations, new technologies developed and adopted and how this has impacted on the increased access to water supply. This forum will provide an opportunity for sharing on innovative and optimum utilization of ICT within the water sector. 10 Sub-Theme 5:Opportunitie s for enhancing Water Storage, Irrigation and Land Reclamation Topic: Water for Human Development, Peace and Dignity Topic: Improving Irrigation water use efficiency in large Irrigation scheme Topic: Opportunities for investing in Irrigation in Kenya Topic: Opportunities for business in irrigation and land reclamation development This session will highlight UNESCO support to mobilizing international community, Heads of State and Government, as well as civil society actors to recognize the importance of sustainable water resources management in Africa. This session will focus on innovative ways for efficient use of water resources for irrigation with a view to managing the available water resource for various uses. The session will convene agricultural water stakeholders to discuss potential collaboration to development agricultural water solutions. It will involve expert led presentations on the challenges of water and agriculture and panel discussion on opportunities for collaboration.
