2 Public Notice of Open Houses FOR PROJECT DEFINITION CONSULTATION, SPRING 2012 BC Hydro is inviting communities, stakeholders and the public to participate in the upcoming Project Definition Consultation, Spring 2012 for the Site C Clean Energy Project (Site C). Site C is a proposed third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River in northeast B.C. Site C is being proposed as part of BC Hydro s overall regeneration program to invest in and renew the province s electricity system. BC Hydro is undertaking Project Definition Consultation to gather stakeholder and public input on a range of topics important to project planning and the ongoing environmental assessment. Consultation topics will include: Highway 29 Preferred Realignments Outdoor Recreation 85th Avenue Industrial Lands Project Definition Consultation materials will be available online beginning April 10, How Input Will be Used Public and stakeholder input received will help inform the planning process, project definition and plans for mitigation of potential project impacts as BC Hydro prepares the Environmental Impact Statement for review in the environment assessment process. 5 FOR GENERATIONS SPRING 2012 HELP SHAPE B.C. s CLEAN ENERGY FUTURE British Columbia is growing and so is our demand for electricity. B.C. s electricity needs are expected to increase by approximately 50 percent over the next 20 years, so we must plan now to ensure future generations can enjoy clean and reliable power. We want to hear your views on how we are proposing to meet our province s future electricity needs. Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) The IRP is BC Hydro s plan for acquiring the resources needed to meet our customers demand for electricity over the next 20 years. In 2011, we conducted province-wide consultation to gather input into development of the plan. BC Hydro is now developing the draft plan and we are inviting the public, First Nations and stakeholders across B.C. to provide feedback this spring. Site C Clean Energy Project BC Hydro is proposing Site C, a third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River to generate clean, reliable and cost-effective electricity for more than 100 years. BC Hydro will be conducting public and stakeholder consultations in the spring and fall on a range of topics. BC Hydro is also engaging in thorough consultation with Aboriginal groups through all stages of the project. They give you anytime access to information, and they help free you from the paper avalanche. You can manage your BC Hydro account by linking it to your BC Hydro Profile at bchydro.com/login. From there, you can download your billing data in spreadsheet form and print out bills for the last 12 months. The CRA recommends Canadians keep their tax records on hand in the event they are required for verification or an audit. That s easy to do from your BC Hydro Profile. Just create PDF versions of your bills and store them on your computer for future reference. But take note, you need to be registered to get access to bills online. So if you want to make next year s tax season simpler, register for a BC Hydro Profile now, and choose to get your bill online only. For more information, visit bchydro.com/gopaperless RATES UPDATE The BC Utilities Commission issued a decision on February 15 regarding BC Hydro s rate application, which confirms an interim 3.91 per cent rate increase effective April 1, The decision also ordered an interim increase to BC Hydro s current rate rider of 2.5 per cent to 5 percent. The BCUC decision translates into an overall increase of about $5 per month on the current rate.
