1 ZWANNY NEWS Protecting your company s environment. Issue 9 September 2017 OIL IBC CLEANING &GREASE COLLECTION We are busy in the sideline of waste management services that we are offering. This month we did a 2-part collection from one of the steel works in Newport. The first part was to empty over 20 Ibc s that where full of waste oil, this was done with a vacuum truck and it only took us a couple of hours to do. The recovered oil was a challenge to get out of the tanker due to the type of oil when blending with waste diesel and paraffin it took an extra day to have the drum of the tank fully cleaned. The second part after our site visit we asked the customer to sort out the rags and absorbents and decant if possible the grease which they did for us This made the work easy as we collected 15pallet on a flatbed. All the waste is recycled as the waste oil goes into fuel for brickworks, cement works and the drums with rags, IN THIS ISSUE Oil ibc cleaning New website New absorbent boom Chemical absorbents Further flood protection Product of month absorbents and grease will be used as fuel to energy. 3 Absorbent boom with skirt for Oil terminal Further PSPI flood protection One of The UK based refineries asked us for recommendations what product to use for in and around the jetty that they have got. The jetty is over 2km long and has got most of the pipelines going over it where all the crude oil comes into the refinery and where a range of finished products is transferred to tankers via pipelines. With a possible leak from any pipe line they needed a product that could be used for this application and where the sea at high tide can go up to 8m and that can be deployed with speed from a rib if needed. We have got in the range a new absorbent boom that also has a skirt for that extra performance. The boom includes strong metal connectors for the boom and Velcro overlap to seal the skirt between the sections. These sorbent booms are a cost-effective way of recovering oil spill from water. They are the perfect complement to containment booms in larger spills and are ideal for use alone in small and medium size spills. These booms we offer in 12.5m sections(2 in a pack) 20cm diameter absorbent section with a 25cm skirt each section can absorb 330litres each and can be used in temperatures -30c to 70c. 4 Chemical absorbents Further PSPI flood protection We have come across this several times, that a number of other companies are overcharging companies for the use of chemical absorbents. We as a company do not believe that this should be the case, as there is no magic formula that an absorbent is used for a chemical application. When the raw polypropylene comes into the factory( this is in most cases recycled material from plastic bottles)it arrives in bales and are small polypropylene particles these are fed onto a belt that is heated and the particles are melt blown onto a mandrel ( a bit like snow falling) at this prior melt blown process the factory would add a yellow die that is inert and with this in mind it can be used for acids and for alkaline, and this would also take up water and can be used on hydrocarbons. For the other absorbents like the grey type this is a general purpose absorbent it is made in the same process only a grey die is added to the process. For the oil absorbents, a soap/bleach based material is used to give it a white look and with the soap based material it will not take up any water hence that it can be used in water. The advantage of the chemical products not only will it do a range of chemicals but can be used as a general-purpose product and all for the same price. The chemical range we offer in pads, rolls, socks, booms and pillows and can make up a kit to just hold chemical absorbents. 5 Further PSPI flood protection Further flood protection With many pictures in the recent news of floods in Asia and Texas we have signed an agreement with a UK manufacture to offer in our range of products further flood protection as we offer the inflatable sections we also can offer flood protection products on a smaller scale or larger scales.this is a unique self filling flood barrier system which is rapid deployable robust floodbarries. The system was developed to supercede sandbagging techniques and is used successfully throughout Europe and The USA as a rapidly deployable flood barrier. The barriers is assembled through a series of interlocking units. When assembled the majority of these unit actually fill with the rising flood waters. 6 PRODUCT OF THE MONTH: UNIBOOM A Further PSPI flood protection Containment booms with cylindrical foam floatation The UNIBOOM A is a rugged and dependable oil containment boom to be used in sheltered waters. Construction This boom is equipped with cylindrical floats which are flexible giving the boom excellent wave following characteristics and exceptional protection in adverse conditions. The materials used, top quality, high-frequency-welded oil-resistant PVC or PU coated fabrics, make this boom robust and highly resistant to hydrocarbons, chemical agents and weather conditions. The boom is composed of 2-metre long independent cylindrical floats which guarantee floatation in case of damage. Each section is fitted with standard end connectors, which may be ASTM, UNICON or Norwegian type as required.
