9 Pellets Market Focus Buyer Focus Commencing pressure in USA Co-firing in power plants Municipalities, large industries and new projects Medium market and consumers through distributors (quality restrictions & volatility in volume and price) Geographical Focus European Union will remain as a large market USA and Asia can quickly grow into a very large marke

10 Investment & Technology US pellet mill developments and capacity update During 2014 there was a pause in the previously rapid expansion of wood pellet manufacturing capacity in the US South. Industrial pellet manufacturing capacity at the end of the year was just under 5.0Mt/y, much the same as at the beginning. With approximately 2.1Mt/t of additional capacity currently under construction in the South there will be no such pause in By the end of 2015, industrial pellet capacity in the South is likely to have reached approximately 7.0Mt/y, almost all of it destined for European utility customers. Further expansions are scheduled for 2016 and

12 Investment & Technology Asian pellet mill developments and capacity update South Korea and Japan will become large importers of pellets and energy chips in the coming decade, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly. The governments in Japan and South Korea have announced definite plans to increase their usage of green and low carbon energy alternatives. 12

14 Wood pellets - Particle Size Matters Grinding Pellet plant Power plant to make the final size reduction Summery on grinding: Pellet mill plants have no incitement to make fine grinding (powder) for pellet production. Powder / fine grinding can be made where energy cost are lowest. Particle size can be optimized acc. to actual boiler requirement if powder / fine grinding is made at the power plant Minor savings in energy consumption seem to be possible if pellets are ground in a hammer mill at the power plant. 14
