1 Somerset County/Sustainable Jersey Green Leadership Initiative Green Business Partner Initiatives and Opportunities BACKGROUND & INSTRUCTIONS: The Somerset County Planning Division and the Somerset County Business Partnership strongly support municipal efforts to achieve Sustainable Jersey Certification goals. We have joined forces, together with Sustainable Jersey, The Somerset County Energy Council and other partners to form the new Somerset County Green Leadership Hub, which includes municipal officials and green team members from throughout the County. We also recognize and applaud the numerous initiatives underway by our partner organizations, specifically members of the business community that are working through and developing sustainability programs and advancing technology at the ground level. We encourage participation in the Somerset County Business Partnership s Green Business Challenge. We also support growth of the green industry sector of the County s Economy. Earning certification through Sustainable Jersey is an onerous, but rewarding and impactful process. Municipalities must earn at least 150 points to be certified at the Bronze level. The goal of the County Green Leadership Hub is to assist its municipalities in obtaining these points by highlighting areas where the County and its partners can offer assistance through existing programs and initiatives. This process will help municipalities reach their goals quickly and in a more cost-effective manner, while advancing quality of life and sustainability goals countywide. To date, 18 of our 21 Somerset County municipalities are registered in the Sustainable Jersey Program; with 9 achieving Bronze level certification and 3 (Bernards Township, Bridgewater Township, and Warren Township) achieving Silver level. The County Green Leadership Hub is relying on your help to identify the private-sector opportunities that municipalities can take advantage of in order to achieve their sustainability goals, while also abiding by NJ Local Public Contracts law (N.J.S.A. 40A:11-1 et seq.) Below is a menu of Actions for Certification, available to municipalities through the Sustainable Jersey Program. You are asked to use the below menu to identify the products, services and initiatives that your business offers, which can help municipalities meet the Action Item requirements of the Sustainable Jersey Certification Program. Corresponding existing business services, products, and initiatives that municipalities can tap into to meet the requirements associated with Sustainable Jersey Action Items can be listed below the appropriate heading. The responses to this survey will be compiled to create a comprehensive Inventory of Existing Opportunities available to municipalities from the business community. Please provide information about any products, services and initiatives provided by your business that align with Sustainable Jersey s Actions to the below menu. Information can be added directly to this document, and ed to Tara Kenyon, Principal Planner at the Somerset County Planning Division, at Kenyon@co.somerset.nj.us. The finalized Business Partners Inventory will be shared at the next Somerset County Green Leadership Hub Forum, which will be held on the evening of May 13, 2015 at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex. Register at WEB.SCBP.ORG/EVENTS. 1
