2 CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE The role of our partners and sponsors in achieving sustainable development and a green economy Opinion Editorial by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD & CEO of DEWA Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) welcomes you to the 19th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), which is being held under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, from October This year's theme for WETEX is 'At the forefront of sustainability,' which looks to highlight the event's leading reputation in sharing key concepts of sustainability across the sectors of energy, water, environment, green economy, development and smart cities as well as other related sectors, in line with DEWA s endeavours to maintain its status as a leading sustainable world-class utility. This is the biggest edition of WETEX to date as the event's location spans across a surface area of over 70,000 square metres with over 2,000 exhibitors from 50 different countries. Like in the previous four years, WETEX is once again being organised under the umbrella of Green Week and will also coincide with the 2nd Dubai Solar Show and the 4th World Green Economy Summit (WGES). Today, WETEX has become a leading international platform sponsored by 75 national and international organisations. DEWA ensures that the sponsors are sustainability partners who actively support social, environmental and economic development in Dubai by promoting proper resources management, rationalisation and raising awareness about sustainability and environmental preservation. 3 FEATURES Silver Spring Networks to Showcase the Connected Future for Dubai at WETEX Silver Spring Networks (NYSE: SSNI) is participating in WETEX as a Strategic Partner. Mr. Jorge Duarte, Business Development and Sales Director Continental Europe and GCC Region for Silver Spring Networks, will present during WETEX on Monday, October 23 from 12:40 1:10 pm local time. In his presentation, Thinking Big Picture to Achieve Major Smart Grid, Smart Water & IoT Programmes, Mr. Duarte will highlight the opportunities for Dubai and other economic hubs across the Middle East to leverage open and secure IoT platforms to accelerate innovation, help ensure interoperability, speed deployment times, and reduce the cost and risk of their critical infrastructure programs. 4 FEATURES Attracting key industry players in water desalination, treatment, and conservation technologies The innovative solutions and cuttingedge technologies in water treatment are one of the key subjects of the 19th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2017) from 23 to 25 October 2017 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year's WETEX provides large spaces that bring together key industry players from around the world under one roof. This covers all aspects, from water treatment, desalination plants, pipes of all kinds, to coolers and heaters, as well as other products and solutions. WETEX will also have tools, equipment and accessories for digging technologies, pumps, valves, the latest advances in irrigation systems, agriculture and horticultural equipment and water extraction equipment. With a focus on water conservation, WETEX will include products for detecting and treating water leaks, reservoir lining, and various materials used in the water sector and for water transportation. During the exhibition, DEWA will also highlight its strategic plan to promote the efficiency of its water network to meet increasing demand and support the sustainable development of Dubai. DEWA will also highlight the efforts of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), operating under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, to combat poverty and diseases by finding long-term sustainable solutions for the scarcity of drinking water by using solar power and other sustainable solutions. WETEX 2017 serves as an important meeting point for manufacturers, service providers, decision-makers and investors from around the world to ensure a brighter future for generations to come. Since its launch, the exhibition has seen the signing of numerous deals and partnerships that contributed to shifting the energy sector regionally and globally.
