3 National Food Safety Standard Food Contact Material and Its Products Determination of Total Migration Limit 1 Scope This standard specifies the determination method for total migration limit in food contact material and its products. This standard is applicable to the determination of total migration limit in food contact material and its products. It is not applicable to the determination of total migration limit of vegetable oil type food simulants. 2 Principle Gross of nonvolatile matter migrated from the sample to soak solution after the sample is soaked in various types of food simulants and the soak solution is evaporated and dried. 3 Reagent and material (food simulants) Unless otherwise specified, all reagents used in this method are analytically pure. Water is Level 2 water specified in GB/T Reagent Food simulants: Operate according to GB Trichloromethane (CHCl 3 ). 3.2 Reagent preparation Preparation of food simulants: Operate according to GB/T Instrument and device 4.1 Balance: Sensitive quantity is 0.1mg. 4.2 Electrothermal constant-temperature dry box. 4.3 Glass evaporating dish: 50mL. 5 Analytical procedures 5.1 Sampling method Operate according to the sampling method in GB/T Sample cleaning Operate according to the cleaning of sample in GB/T Food simulants of the sample and selection of simulated conditions Operate according to corresponding product standards. 5.4 Pretreatment method of migration test of the sample Operate according to the test method in GB/T Sample determination 3

4 5.5.1 Determination of total migration limit Take 200mL of test solutions of food simulants and put it in 50mL glass evaporating dish which has been dried for 2h in drying oven at 100 ±5 in advance by times. Evaporate it to dryness in water bath at the boiling temperature of various soak solutions. Wipe off water drop at the bottom of the dish. Place it in drying oven at 100 ±5 for 2h before taking it out. Weigh after cooling for 0.5h in the drying oven. Blank test is done at the same time Determination of trichloromethane extractive These determination procedures are applicable to containers for plant fiber food. When the total migration limit of food simulants exceeds the prescribed limits, content of residue of trichloromethane extractive is measured after extracting and filtering the residue with trichloromethane. Add 50mL of trichloromethane into the residue obtained in Shake and filter with quantitative filter paper. Collect the filter liquor in an evaporating dish which has been dried for 2h. Repeat trichloromethane extraction for three times in such a way. Use trichloromethane to wash the filter paper. Merge the filter liquor into the evaporating dish. Put the filter liquor on water bath to evaporate to nearly dried. Move the evaporating dish into an oven for 2h at 105. Take out the evaporating dish. Weigh after cooling for 0.5h and get the residue of trichloromethane extractive. 6 Formulation of analysis result 6.1 Calculation of total volume of migration in the sample The total migration limit in the sample is calculated according to Formula (1): X 1 Total migration limit of the sample with the unit of mg/dm 2 ; m 1 Mass of residue of soak solution for sample determination with the unit of mg; m 2 Mass of residue of blank soak solution with the unit of mg; V 1 Volume of soak solution for determination with the unit of ml; 4
