14 PROGRAMS FOR WATER INDUSTRY ON-GOING PROGRAMS SAPARD - PROGRAM FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT Aims: - Extensions of the water supply systems in villages; - Extension of the wastewater systems in villages; - Nes water and wastewater works in rural area; Funding: - European Union (60 75%); - Local Budgets through EIB of EBRD loans (40 25%); Rehabilitation of the water supply and wastewater systems: Arad, Buzău, Brăila, Braşov, Cluj-Napoca, Constanţa, Craiova, Focşani, Iaşi, Oradea, Timişoara, Paşcani, Pitesti, Satu-Mare, Sibiu, Piatra-Neamţ, Târgu-Mureş, Valea Jiului; Aproved funds: 55 mil. Euro (only for water and wastewater).

PROGRAM FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT Total estimated cost: 40.0 mil. Euro; Financing sources: Loan from the IBRD; Target: Different villages from 5 counties.

16 PROGRAMS FOR WATER INDUSTRY ON-GOING PROGRAMS SMALL AND MEDIUM TOWNS INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT SAMTID Motivation: 230 small and medium towns in which are living 6.0 mil. people are not financially viable regarding the water and wastewater supply systems; Aim: Rehabilitation of the water and wastewater infrastructure to be operated by a regional, viable operator; Estimated cost: 380 mil. Euro; - 50% loan from EIB or EBRD; - 50% Phare through the National Cohesion Fund; Conditionality: Local Authorities will prepare the Feasibility studies.

21 CONCLUSIONS -MAJOR REHABILITATION OF THE WATER AND WASTEWATER INDUSTRY BASED ON STUDIES ON PILOT PLANT; - LOWERING THE RISK ON THE HUMAN HEALTH; - LOWERING THE POLUTION RISK ON THE WATER SOURCES; - HARMONIZATION OF THE NATIONAL LEGISLATION WITH THE EU LEGISLATION AND CONFORMATION; - ACCESION IN THE EUROPEAN UNION.
