3 THE HISTORY Vovani Water Products (VWP) was established in October 2011 by Henk Smit, who, after working in the water treatment sector from 1999 to 2006, was looking at possible opportunities to re-enter the water industry, but from a different angle. The company started its operation in Potchefstroom, in the North-West province, but has moved its operations in February 2016 to Kempton Park in Gauteng, close to OR Tambo International Airport, to better serve customers and have an improved logistical position. When the opportunity to represent international companies and their products in SSA arose, VWP was born, providing these companies with a footprint and service support in the region. Although various competitors were already established in the market, there were certain suppliers that had achieved enormous success around the world but had yet to establish themselves in the sub-sahara African (SSA) market due to a lack of local representation. VWP had to get its brand out in the market quickly and finalise signed distributor agreements with the international suppliers to represent them. VWP started small, with only two products, seeking to prove itself in the market. The company started to gain momentum by supplying products to water treatment projects for customers, establishing itself as an important role player in the sector. Top international brands are now being represented by VWP in the SSA market, bringing high quality and unique products to this region.
