1 In Pursuit of Greener India (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India, partnering industry, Government, and civil society, through advisory and consultative processes. CII - Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (CII - Godrej GBC) is one of the 10 Centres of Excellences of the (CII). GBC offers advisory services to the industry in the areas of green companies, green buildings, energy efficiency, environmental management, renewable energy and waste management. GBC sensitises key stakeholders to embrace Green practices and facilitates market transformation, paving way for India to become one of the global leaders in Green businesses. GBC is housed in a Green Building which received the prestigious Platinum Rating from US Green Building Council in This was the first Platinum rated Green Building in India and the greenest building at that point in time. 2 Some of the key initiatives of CII in facilitating Green industry include the following: Promoting Green Companies through GreenCo Rating System, the first of its kind in the world CII through an extensive stakeholder consultations & interactions with experts has developed GreenCo rating system for evaluating greenness of the company The objective of GreenCo rating system is to create a framework to define and assess how Green the company is and highlight the way forward on how to turn Greener As on date, 14 companies have been GreenCo rated and over 70 companies are working on this rating. GreenCo will facilitate in adopting world class practices in energy efficiency, resource conservation, zero waste to landfill, water conservation and greenhouse gas mitigation, greening the supply chain, product stewardship and life cycle thinking all leading to ecologically sustainable growth His Excellency Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India addressing at the inaugural session of GreenCo Summit 2013 on 15 July 2013 at Pune Promoting sustainable-built environment in the country Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) of CII is spearheading the Green Building movement in India, since 2001 As on date (Feb 2014) over 2,400 green building projects amounting to over 1.83 Billion sq.ft. of green building footprint are going the greener way

3 IGBC has launched 7 types of Green Building Rating Systems to suit various types of buildings- Homes, Existing Buildings, Landscape, Factory buildings, SEZ, Townships and commercial buildings. All the Rating Systems of IGBC are based on the five elements of nature (Panchabhutas). They have become national by choice and global in performance IGBC has launched the Accredited Professional Exam: Qualified professionals can facilitate green building projects in the country. As on date, over 1,185 are IGBC Accredited Professionals. Dr. K. Services include: conducting detailed energy audits, sectoral studies, development of Specific Energy Consumption norms for various sectors, Awards & training programmes As on date, CII has facilitated 1,400 detailed energy audits covering various sectors of the Indian industry. This has facilitated cumulative energy saving of over Rs. 2,435 million. CII has launched an initiative titled World Class Energy Efficiency. 4 Green House Gas Management CII in partnership with WRI, TERI has launched the India GHG program. India GHG Program aims to build comprehensive measurement & management strategies that will reduce emissions and drive more profitable, competitive and sustainable business models in the country. Promoting Renewable Energy Technologies As part of this initiative, CII is currently working on the following two important initiatives: Smart Power for Environmentally-sound Economic Development (SPEED) The objective of SPEED is to provide affordable green energy and clean fuels to rural Indian population using locally available renewable energy sources with mobile towers/micro enterprises serving as anchor loads. This initiative is being supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, USA. SPEED has implemented five pilot projects across 4 States - Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Ten more projects are under various stages of commissioning. Green Power Market Development Group India (GPMDG) CII and WRI supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) jointly launched GPMDG. GPMDG initiative seeks to create demand for renewable energy among corporate and help companies in meeting their renewable energy purchase obligations and also make them sustainable in the long term. 5 Promoting low Carbon Growth in Indian Cement Industry CII is working on a project titled Facilitate Development of Framework to Promote Alternate Fuel Utilization (AFR) in India, which is partially supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF), a part of Climate Works Foundation The main objective of this project is to accelerate usage of AFR in the Indian Cement Industry through capacity building, data availability Facilitate exchange of waste by working closely with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs), thereby reducing environmental impacts of waste generation and raw material usage.
