Longer life means greener results At Firestone, our commitment to the planet has resulted in sustainable products and processes. We re giving architects, building owners and suppliers the tools they need to create the most efficient, earth-friendly projects available. Our dedication to the environment has led us to an important decision: Firestone Building Products has voluntarily chosen to withdraw from the PVC market. Those resources have been refocused on TPO, which offers our customers a more environmentally friendly thermoplastic membrane. Already, our commitment to TPO has proven influential. One major retail customer noted the positive impact of their Firestone-provided TPO roofing. So they made a decision of their own to phase out PVC on their roofs. help promote efficient, sustainable building practices. We stand behind our products longevity with confidence. In fact, we back our roofing systems with the industry s most substantial warranty, the Firestone Red Shield Warranty guaranteeing unparalleled performance year after year. Firestone s warranties include: Platinum 30-year warranties utilizing our Premium Platinum EPDM and TPO roofing systems 25-year Red Shield Medallion warranties for certain Firestone EPDM, TPO, Metal and SBS systems Red Shield warranties of up to 20 years with our EPDM, TPO, asphalt and metal roofing systems The sustainable advantages of metal Durable and versatile, metal roofing is a popular construction choice. Long known for its high recycled content, aesthetic appearance and complete recyclability, metal truly represents cradle-to-cradle sustainability. Additionally, metal s long life cycle and low maintenance help make Firestone s UNA-CLAD systems among the best roofing choices available today.

The long-term impact of performance: Firestone roofing and insulation We re proud of the role that Firestone roofing products play in environmental protection. Our EDPM, TPO and asphalt systems are designed to enhance the energy efficiency of the buildings they cover. Ultimately, what s good for a building is good for the environment. A water-resistant roof keeps the insulation dry. And dry insulation results in superior thermal performance which keeps down energy consumption and costs. All of this conservation adds up. The less energy a building consumes, the less demand it places on natural resources such as coal, oil and gas. Firestone s polyiso products The less energy When it comes to energy conservation, one of the most decisive factors is the insulation you use. Once again, Firestone is leading the way. a building We are the world s largest manufacturer of polyiso (polyisocyanurate) roofing insulation. A rigid, closed-cell board product with excellent thermal performance, polyiso is the preferred insulation for green-minded builders and consumers. Firestone has eight polyiso manufacturing and distribution plants throughout the United States. The quantity and strategic locations of our plants even help us preserve fuel during distribution. In addition, Firestone uses ISOGard Foam technology which utilizes an HCFC-free blowing agent that does not contribute to ozone depletion. And that helps us preserve natural resources. Meeting the Mark Firestone ISO 95+ insulation, along with our other polyiso composite products, have been approved and certified by the PIMA QualityMark CM Certification program. QualityMark certification is earned after PIMA s third-party measurement of long-term thermal resistance (LTTR) values. Of course, many of these values also enhance your potential for LEED rating points. ISOGARD HD Cover Board is a lightweight but heavy duty alternative to traditional cover boards. This easy to install product stays down with fewer fasteners and absorbs potentially damaging impacts from weather and foot traffic The advantages of Firestone polyiso products include: The highest R-value per inch of thickness in the industry, helping you meet ASHRAE standards Long-term R-value Recycled content and re-use possible when combined with a Firestone membrane Nationwide availability, along with FM & UL certification

7 consumes, the less demand it places on natural resources. FPO

8 With products that are both FPO In 2007, Firestone Building Products recycled more than 1 million square feet of EPDM.

9 Recyclability. An influence that lasts beyond the roof s lifetime Firestone Building Products is proud to manufacture roofing membranes that are recyclable.* From EPDM to TPO to metal, Firestone systems can make a positive impact that lasts beyond a roof s own life cycle. And all Firestone UNA-CLAD Metal Roofing Systems are not only 100% recyclable, but also are manufactured using extensive amounts of recycled content. durable and recyclable, Firestone helps make a positive impact. RubberGard EPDM membrane: Protecting roofs and the planet For both new and reroof low-slope roofing applications, EPDM is the most popular material in the industry. It s no wonder: EPDM offers durability, design versatility and easy installation. Not only is RubberGard EPDM membrane recyclable in many situations, but it also offers other green advantages. Based on a high-performance synthetic rubber compound, RubberGard EPDM membrane provides outstanding weathering characteristics reducing long-term demand on natural resources, thanks to extended roof life and energy savings. * Firestone products are recyclable. Recycling options are currently available in designated areas. Contact a local Firestone sales representative for details.

10 Greater reflectivity can lead to reduced When a white membrane is important, RubberGard EcoWhite EPDM membrane offers an alternative. The product s reflectivity meets LEED sustainable site Credit 7.2 requirements, as well as California s Title 24 requirements.

11 Reflectivity. Keeping it cool with reflective roofing Firestone is a leader in roofing systems that help keep the building cool by reflecting the sun s thermal energy. Greater reflectivity leads to cooler building interiors and ducts, all of which reduce: Energy costs, particularly for summer air conditioning The heat island effect that often occurs in cities and suburbs Air pollution and smog formation Standards and certification As a participating member of the Energy Star program and the Cool Roofs Rating Council (CRRC), Firestone has submitted its roofing systems for independent evaluation and certification. air pollution and smog formation. Firestone has earned the EPA s Energy Star label for several products: White AcryliTop Coated EPDM membrane White UltraPly TPO Roofing Systems SBS Metal Flashing Several UNA-CLAD Color-Coated Metal Roofing Systems Aluminum Fibered Coating for Asphalt Systems When you re looking for products that meet official standards, remember some other facts: With the introduction of new LVOC adhesives and primers, Firestone is doing its part to help ensure safer conditions for installers and friendlier products to the environment. Installing Firestone UltraPly TPO roofing membrane can add valuable points for the building owner who wants to obtain LEED accreditation. RubberGard EcoWhite EPDM membrane has a solar-reflectance index that meets LEED criteria for reducing heat-island effects. Ballasted systems have recently been shown to have a cooling effect similar to TPO, according to SPRI (Single Ply Roofing Institute). Our products solar-reflectance values have been rated by the CRRC and are available at the council s web site, coolroofs.org. Firestone s polyiso insulation further enhances thermal performance by limiting thermal movement. Firestone UNA-CLAD Metal Roofing Systems are CRRC-listed for the following standard colors: Bone White, Sandstone, Silver Metallic and Cityscape.

12 Firestone s EnviroReady System

13 Energy-conscious solutions that fit your 21st-century needs Alternative systems: 21st-century approaches The new Firestone EnviroReady Roofing System and Warranty lets building owners install a high quality conventional roof today and upgrade it with green roofing technology tomorrow. Firestone s Red Shield warranty keeps new EPDM or TPO systems enviro-ready for responsible upgrades for up to 7 years after initial installation. This exclusive program covers inspections before and after installation of new green upgrades. One such upgrade is garden roofing, which moves the green advantages of vegetation to the top of the building. Firestone facilitates this innovative solution by manufacturing the EPDM and TPO membranes that give the system a durable, reliable foundation. As a result, installation and maintenance also become easier and more cost-effective. Similarly, PV panels offer solar-energy solutions for small- and large-scale construction.
