2 GASTAK FEATURES (1) Advantageous Features of Bead Activated Carbon (G-BAC) High resistance to attrition, no dust produced Small diameter, higher adsorption capacity homogenous fluidized bed Low ash content, no catalytic reaction No deterioration over repeated reactivation Bead Activated Carbon (G-BAC) Conventional Charcoal (2) Fluidized Bed Adsorption System Adsorption in continuous fluidized bed and desorption in moving bed ensure uniform operation Continuous fluidized bed prevents heat accumulation Use of N2 or air minimizes or zeroes waste water Higher gas velocity in adsorber allows smaller space requirement Simple, uniform operation allows removal of dedicated operators Simple, Continuous, Safe and Efficient Solvent laden feed gas enters the bottom of the adsorber, and flows upward through the sieve trays. Upward flow of the feed gas fluidizes the G-BAC on the sieve trays. Adsorption of the VOC (volatile organic compounds) occurs in a counter current fashion as the progressively cleaner gas contacts cleaner G-BAC, which maximizes the efficiency of the process. Spent G-BAC exiting the bottom of the adsorber is transferred to the top of the desorber and flows downward through the heat exchanger. A small volume of stripping gas flows upward through the desorber, counter current to the G-BAC flow, to maximize stripping efficiency. Solvent vapor exiting the top of the desorber is transferred to the condenser. Reusable solvent recovered in the process is of high quality. 3 GASTAK APPLICATIONS GASTAK is applicable to wide range of objectives ranging from the recovery of organic solvents to the removal of odor and hazardous materials. Following types are available according to objectives and to impurities contained in effluent gas. Most suitable combination of heating medium and adsorption gas can be selected to ensure safe, efficient and economical operation. 4 Organic Solvent Recovery GASTAK TYPE SN Efficient solvent recovery system avoiding waste water problem GASTSAK TYPE SN is a continuous, efficient unit to liquefy and recover solvent vapors contained in effluent gas stream using Kureha s original Bead Activated Carbon (G-BAC) as adsorbent. Rich G-BAC relieves the adsorbed solvent in the desorption section by means of hot nitrogen gas. Thus the chemical composition of the recovered solvent is kept unaltered, enabling reuse of recovered solvent. Consumption of nitrogen and steam is remarkably smaller than other processes, ensuring lower running costs. Trace of water vapor contained in the feed gas condenses together with solvent and is separated in a decanter. Plethora of experiences exist in various industries handling organic solvents such as printing shops, film manufacturing plants and chemical plants. Advantageous Features of GASTAK TYPE SN Best Suited for Flammable Solvents Desorption section is kept under nitrogen atmosphere. A device to constantly monitor O2 concentration of the recycling N2 gas stream is provided. High Purity Solvent Recovered No heavy metals contained in G-BAC and desorption under N2 atmosphere ensure very little chemical decomposition of recovered solvent. Recovery of water-soluble solvents such as acetone, iso-propyl-alcohol is possible. Easier Water Treatment Desorption by nitrogen minimizes generation of waste water and ensures easier treatment. Low Running Costs Nitrogen is recycled, minimizing consumption. Continuous adsorption and desorption minimize water and steam consumption. Easy to Maintain Minimal moving parts except for blowers allow easy, maintenance free operation. Optional SSR Available Optional installation of Side Stream Regenerator (SSR) remarkably extends the life G-BAC. 6 Bead Activated Carbon Odor Removal Unit GASTAK TYPE HN Efficient solvent recovery system avoiding waste water problems GASTAK TYPE HN is an efficient, easy-to-operate, maintenance-free odor removal unit using Kureha s original Bead Activated Carbon (G-BAC) as adsorbent. In the adsorption section, fluidized bed provides uniform, highly efficient removal of odor compounds. The G-BAC which has adsorbed odor compounds is air-lifted to the top of the desorption section for continuous desorption. G-BAC is heated up to 150 to 400 deg C in the desorption section. Nitrogen is introduced in the bottom of the desorption section and contacts with the G-BAC to desorb the odor compounds. The odor compounds desorbed from the G-BAC is cooled and condensed in the condenser. Advantageous Features of GASTAK TYPE HN Water Treatment Not Required Use of nitrogen as desorption gas eliminates spent water. Space Efficient Fluidized bed allows lower space requirement for larger gas flow rates. Continuous Operation Continuous adsorption and desorption provide uniform, continuous operation over long period of time. Electricity, water and nitrogen are only utilities required for operation. Easy to Maintain Minimal moving parts except for blowers allow maintenance free operation. Low Running Costs Fluidized bed allows low pressure drop, resulting in extremely low electric power requirement. Steam requirement is much less than fixed bed processes, alleviating treatment of waste water. 8 Reactivation of Beads Activated Carbon GASTAK SSR Side-stream, high-temperature reactivation of G-BAC Adsorption activity of Kureha s Bead Activated Carbon (G-BAC), which is used in GASTAK process, may decrease during a long period of use. SSR is a side-stream, high-temperature, continuous reactivation apparatus specially designed for the G-BAC. Advantageous Features of GASTAK SSR Longer G-BAC Life SSR offers a unique option for maintaining carbon activity over a long period of time : thus prolongs service life of G-BAC. Concurrent Reactivation SSR continuously treats a small portion of the working volume of G-BAC and removes high boiling point compounds. SSR allows the customers to utilize the carbon adsorption for the circumstances which would be difficult or impossible with standard systems. This option is not applicable to the conventional fixed bed systems.
