3 1. Introduction Kingspan building Products Ltd. obtained their IPC Licence (No. P0-065) on 3 rd January Condition of the licence states that: The integrity and water tightness of all the bunding structures and their resistance to penetration by water or other materials stored therein shall be tested and demonstrated by the licensee to the satisfaction of the Agency. This report details integrity testing of the ISO/POL bund at the back of the site in January The work was commissioned by Mr. Paul McGowan and carried out by Patricia Murtagh, BSc, MSc of Q.E.D. Engineering Ltd. 2. Testing Methodology The bund integrity testing was carried in accordance with the EPA published IPC Guidance Note on Storage and Transfer of Materials for Scheduled Activities (2004, with Amendments in 2012 & 2013) and also BS 8007: 1987 Code of Practice for Design of Concrete Structures for Storage of Aqueous Liquids. The record sheet from the EPA guidance note was used to detail results in this report. Hydrostatic testing was carried out on the ISO/POL bunded area. This bund was recently upgraded / extended. It was filled with water 24 hours prior to the recording of the initial water level to allow for a one day stabilisation period. The water level in the bund was then checked over a seven day standing period. A reference vessel filled with water to within 150mm of the brim was situated in the bunded area also. This was used to take account of variations due to evaporation and rainfall during the hydrostatic test period. The initial and final water level in the reference vessel along with that of the bund being tested was measured. The ISO/POL bund has a canopy roof to prevent rainwater ingress. This was recently extended. The general requirements of BS 8007 states that during the test period of concrete bund structures the total permissible drop in level, after allowing for evaporation and rainfall, should not exceed 1/500 th (0.2%) of the average initial water level inside the structure, of 10mm loss of water, or another specified amount. In assessing the results of the hydrostatic tests carried out, the above guideline values were used to determine whether or not the bund passed the integrity test. Q.E.D.
