1 Open Until Filled EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Marine Services Ambassador (3 positions) Position Summary: We are looking for two full-time (36 hours) and one part-time (20 hours) Marine Service Ambassadors to join our team. This position is responsible for front-line communication with Kitsap Transit marine service passengers and the public on ferry services, sailing schedules, fares, fare brochures, reservations, terminal facilities, lost and found items, complaints, accessibility and other service related information. This position also serves as a back-up deckhand & assists with vessel operations. This position assists passengers in staging, boarding and departing the ferry; validating reservations, announcing arrivals, departures and delays; providing customer service and support; and initial intake of customer complaints or commendations. The person in this position ensures follow-up is conducted and the Marine Operations and Maintenance Manager is notified when necessary. This position also performs varied administrative support functions for marine operations under limited supervision. The person in this position supports the agency in ensuring a quality customer service experience in the operation and delivery of marine services, including but not limited to: advising customers regarding marine policies and special services; providing information on the use and purchase of Kitsap Transit and regional fare products; reservations, responding to public inquiries on a wide range of topics related to marine operations, transit connections, community information and points of interest, and suggesting transit options and connections to reach desired destinations. The person in this position will follow safety and security procedures in accordance with Kitsap Transit policies; contact law enforcement or other appropriate first responders when directed or circumstances dictate; convey incident information and facilitate response efforts. The person in this position also establishes and maintains a safe environment for

2 passengers. This position also assists during emergencies that may include evacuations, emergency closures, and accident/incident responses and investigations. This person will report unsafe conditions and take corrective action as needed. This position also participates on internal and external committees. This position is responsible for collecting and maintaining on office software, a variety of service-related information and data including passenger counts, revenues, payment types, inquiries received and related information. This position is also responsible for periodically surveying passengers for comments and suggestions and preparing related reports as needed. The person in this position will also need to perform light housekeeping duties such as litter collection, emptying trash cans etc. at docks, on boats and passenger waiting areas when necessary and also assist dockside with vessel operations such as handling mooring lines and fueling. As a back-up deckhand, this position will serve as a deckhand aboard a fast ferry vessel, in the event the primary vessel crew is unavailable. As a backup deckhand, the person in this position must be capable of operating in the role of a deckhand on an inspected vessel in the event of an emergency as outlined in NVIC 1-91 under 46 CFR Part 15. This position reports to the Marine Operations and Maintenance Manager. Salary Range: When not performing deckhand duties, the range for this position is $ $26.51 per hour, commensurate with experience. With rare exception, initial appointments are usually made at Step 1 ($19.71). When performing deckhand duties, the rate of pay will be $30.73 per hour. Benefits: Employees who work 20 hours or more per week receive a generous benefits package including subsidized medical insurance and fully paid dental insurance for employee and dependents, as well as disability insurance and life insurance. This position participates in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement Plan with the option of participating in a state administered deferred compensation plan. Employees receive a generous general leave accrual and 11 holidays pro-rated based on the number of hours worked per pay period up to a maximum of 80 hours per pay period.. Kitsap Transit also provides employees and certain dependents with a free transportation pass on Kitsap Transit. Hours of Work: Hours of operation for the Marine Services division are currently 4:00 a.m. 9:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 8:30 a.m. 1:30 am on Saturdays. These hours of operation may change depending on the business needs of the agency. The full time positions may work up to a 40-hour work schedule that may include shift work, split work and overtime. As the business needs of the agency change, applicants must be available to work any hours of operation including weekends and holidays. Schedules for these positions may vary from week to week and may include weekend and holiday work on a permanent basis.

3 QUALIFICATIONS Kitsap Transit employees who wish to apply must have a satisfactory performance and attendance record. Kitsap Transit Operators with any of the following criteria in the last twelve months are excluded from recruitment opportunities: a current Decision Making Leave or higher in the Safety category more than two held customer complaints more than four unscheduled absences more than two late reports Education and Experience: High school graduation and two (2) years of experience providing customer service to the public. Must have a valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) within 30 days of hire. First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days from hire date is a must. Must be able to fulfill the duties of a deckhand on an inspected vessel in the event of an emergency as outlined in NVIC 1-91 under 46 CFR Part 15. 4 Customer service duties including greeting customers, loading and unloading passengers, maintaining and communicating passenger counts, and assisting customers in a polite and courteous manner. Housekeeping duties including cleaning decks, cabin, hull, and superstructure; and cleaning and disinfecting restrooms. Selling tickets and concessionary products on board as needed. Performing other related duties as required and assigned. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, oils, poor ventilation, chemicals, blood and other body fluids, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restricting movements, intense noise, and environmental conditions such as disruptive people, imminent danger and/or a threatening environment. This position requires substantial time outdoors, in all weather conditions in a maritime environment. Travel to and from various ferry terminals will be required. Primary work stations will be at outdoor marine locations. Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds. Must be qualified as to sight, hearing, and physical condition to perform deckhand duties. Must be physically able to perform all duties associated with the protection and evacuation of passengers during emergency situations including man overboard rescue and retrieval, fire, abandon ship, foul weather, medical emergency, collision, and suspicious package management. Must be able to work long shifts. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Must be available to work late night and early morning hours, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to handle all seamanship duties including fueling, line handling, watch standing, inspection of machinery spaces, emergency drills, deploying gangways and boarding ramps, and transferring black and grey water. Ability to comply with United States Coast Guard mobility and physical standards for deckhand aboard small passenger vessels, per USCG COMDTPUB B , NVIC Selection Process: This posting is open until filled.
