2 ROLE DESCRPTON Post title: Job Purpose Train, assist and advise academic staff, students and researchers on CT related issues within the context of the environment in which each school/subject area operates. MAJOR ACTVTES AND RESPONSBLTES: Provide on-site, telephone and electronic support to academic staff and students working across the university. Ensure effective communication is applied to respond to particular needs, sometimes at short notice. Provide assistance in training, and advising academic staff, students and researchers on CT related issues within the context of the environment in which each school/subject area operates. Support the University Teaching Programmes in CT related subjects, as appropriate. Assist in preparing and presenting formal classes, supervise computer laboratories and support tutorial classes in liaison with academic staff in the University, as directed by Associate T Director- Support. When directed, attend meetings and other relevant gatherings with Schools to gain an understanding of particular needs, and provide on-going advice and CT awareness to Schools staff (in liaison with other relevant experts within SA). Working with functional support (Card Centre, Student Printing), deal with maintenance of printers in local use, providing toner and paper as necessary, and providing subsequent support. Provide advice and assistance in staffing the SA Functional Support facilities (Card Centre, Student Printing). When required, provide assistance to and participate in projects conducted by Direct Services or other SA teams as directed by Associate T Director-Support. Ensure that there is effective documentation at all times so that work may be shared with other Direct Service staff. Engage in cross-functional teamwork with other members of SA to ensure that a complete service is provided to customers. Participate in the development and implementation of PC laboratory images. Operate in SA helpdesk and respond to Help Desk calls and other contact from customers, speedily and professionally, in accordance with escalation procedures set out by the Service Desk Manager and Associate T Director-Support. When required check computer laboratories and ensure that all T equipment in Computer labs are operational. Assist in preparing the inventory of the Aston University T equipments. Provide all services outlined in this job description on-site (face-to-face), over the telephone, or electronic means as necessary. Attend proposed training and learning courses as necessary. Keep up to date with CT technology and other relevant areas of change through formal and informal means. Undertake any other tasks as appropriate to the grade of this post as may be designated by the Associate T Director-Support. 2

Substantial experience in delivering secure, resilient and responsive services to a satisfied customer base environment. Successful track record of enjoying a positive working relationship with peers, subordinates, line manager and customers. Excellent knowledge of Windows XP, Windows 7 and Antivirus applications Good working knowledge of Linux, Mac OS/X, Network (TCP/P, Firewall, Wireless, Security) and Active Directory. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent knowledge and capability to support Desk Top PCs and other related CT equipment. A strong service ethic and a commitment to service quality, as well as a can do attitude to work. Ability to work in a team and offer practical solutions Polite and professional behaviour combined with a flexible approach to duties. DESRABLE Teaching, Learning and Research support experience in an educational environment MOA Aptitudes/Skills Knowledge of a modern modular high-level language C and/or C++, Java VB or other languages. Knowledge of SCCM, Symantec Ghost Solution Suite Ghost, Deep Freeze 3

4 OUTLNE TERMS AND CONDTONS OF THE APPONTMENT Term of appointment: Continuing appointments are offered. The appointment is Grade 7 and the salary range for this grade is 24,049-28,685 per annum. Holiday entitlement: Holiday entitlement is 30 days per annum. The English Public Holidays and University Closure Days are in addition. Awards are determined on an annual basis. Successful candidates will be required to produce evidence of their qualifications upon joining the University. Newly-appointed staff are required to establish their homes within reasonable daily travelling distance to and from the University. The University operates a relocation scheme to assist newly-appointed staff in meeting this requirement.
