In February 1985, the Bureau of Higher Education, the former Commission on Higher Education, which was then under the Department of Education Culture and Sports (DECS), authorized the institute to offer BSBA major in Management. The other programs allowed by DECS to be offered by AIDE then were Associate in Arts and Bachelor of Arts program with majors in English, Economics, History, Sociology and Political Science. CHED MEMO ORDER NO. 17 series of 2017 sets the new policies, standards and guidelines for the BSBA curriculum which supersedes CHED MEMO ORDER NO, 39 s and follows CHED MEMO ORDER NO. 46 s in pursuance of an outcomes-based quality assurance system. As the Philippine higher education transitions to a different landscape, specially now that the K- 12 program has been fully subsumed to the basic education curriculum, with its first batch to graduate in school year , all courses in college are also undergoing changes and revision. Apart from the implementation of K-12, the need to conform with an outcomes-based quality assurance system is also among the reasons for such change. See Page 2 C H E D I S S U E S C M O 24 S , S TA N D A R D S F O R AB E N G L I S H C U R R I C U L U M Last May 9, 2017, the CHED issues Memorandum Order 24 s otherwise known as the Policies, Standards and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Bachelor of Art in English Language Studies. Just like other programs or courses in higher education, the objective for the change is to shift to learning competencybased standards and outcomes-based education which is required under CMO 46 series of See page 5

2 Page 2 Volume 1, Issue 5, May 2017 A I D E IMPLEMENTS F R O M P A G E 1 The new Policies, Standards and Guidelines (PSGs) implements the shift to learning competency based standards and outcomes-based education..the new PSGs provides ample space for HEIs to innovate in the curriculum the best way to achieve learning outcomes in the context of their respective missions. -- CHED What are the new inclusions in the BSBA Curriculum? Article II of CMO 17 s states that all Philippine Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) with an existing Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program are required to shift to an outcomes-based approach based on the Policies, Standards and Guidelines issued by CHED. Further, under Article IV of the same CMO, it states that program BSBA should have five (5) distinct majors, or specialization, as follows: 1. Human Resource Management; 2. Marketing Management; 3. Financial Management; 4. Operations Management; and 5. Business Economics Under the new program there will be 36 general education (G.E) courses composed of the following: 1. GE Core Courses, 36 units Understanding the Self; Readings in Philippine History; The Contemporary World; Mathematics in the Modern World; Purposive Communication; Art Appreciation; Science, Technology, and Society; Ethics; Rizal s Life and Works (as mandated by Law 2. GE Electives Mathematics, Science and Technology; Social Science and Philosophy; Arts and Humanities Apart from the GE subjects, the students are required to take 2 subjects or 6 units of NSTP and 4 subjects or 8 units of PE subjects. Regardless of the major course or specialization that the students will take, the new CMO also requires the inclusion of the six (6) units Core Business and Management Education Courses which cover all the major functional areas of business, and provide the foundational knowledge of the environment and the context in which a graduate of BSBA work such as Operations Management (Total Quality Management TQM) and Strategic Management. In addition, there are twenty four (24) units of Business Administration Core Courses which includes: 1. Basic Microeconomics; 2. Business Law; 3. Taxation (Income Taxation); 4. Good Governance and Social Responsibility; 5. Human Resource Management; 6. International Business and Trade; 7. Business Research; and 8. Thesis or Feasibility Study BSBA Major in Human Resource Management The Human Resource Management Progam prepares the graduate for a career in the Human Resources Department of any organization, handling the many diverse human capital requirements of the organization, including recruitment, staffing, training and career development. Each distinct field or major course are provided with twenty four (24) units of professional courses that lay the fundamental concepts of every business administration student. Specifically for the Human Resource Management major, the following professional courses should be taken: Administrative and Office Management; Labor Law and Legislation; Recruitment and Selection; Training and Development; Compensation Administration; Labor Relations and Negotiations; Special Topics in Human Resource Management; and Organizational Development BSBA Major in Marketing Management The Marketing Management program prepares the graduate for careers in marketing, market research, advertising and public relations. The curriculum provides the graduates with both technical skills and competencies required in the field, but also the flexible mind-set that is necessary to stay competitive in a constantly changing business environment. Professional Courses under the BSBA Major in Marketing Management? Just like the Human Resource Management major, the professional courses in the Marketing Management Major is composed of twenty four (24) units, as follows: Professional Salesmanship; Marketing research; Marketing Management; Distribution Management; Advertising; Product Management; Retail Management; and Pricing Strategy AIDE OFFERS DISCOUNT FOR PWDs and other financial securities markets. The curriculum provides the graduate with knowledge on financial institutions and technical skills based on established financial theories, methodologies, and various analytical tools. The program curriculum covers all aspects of operations within the organization, including the management of purchases, inventory, production and service quality, logistics, supply chain and distribution. The program focuses on the relationship of business operations and the economy as a whole. It integrates economic principles and strategies into standard business practices so that the student can have both the micro view of how the business can acquire capital, generate profit and efficiently produce goods and services, as well as the macro view of how external economic factors such as government regulations can affect, and should influence, business decisions. Also, the program should enhance the student s competencies in the use of the English language in real-world contexts and to present appropriate strategies of language use through a heightened awareness of how English works in different situations in the Philippines and in Asia and the rest of the world.
