Polson Higgs is one of the South Island s leading independent chartered accountancy and business advisory firms with a staff of almost 60 located in Dunedin. We continually strive to provide quality service and value to our clients through our exceptional people. The business was formed based on a desire to provide higher levels of service to the local region. To that end, we now offer a fully integrated range of services. Recognised experts within the firm enable our clients to access advice and support for all of their business needs. Polson Higgs today has four partners (Steve Dunbar, Tim Dunn, Michael Turner and Henry van Dyk) and staff that specialise in most areas of business advice. Operate a profitable training division ensuring quality strategic and operational delivery of agreed Training calendar both to external customers and internal staff Page 3 of 6

4 Key Accountabilities Research To research and review training solutions to ensure Polson Higgs is delivering the most up to date, relevant topics to our clients, To build a Training calendar based on researching and identifying market requests, Work as part of the team; ensuring that the training business has information on market trends, options, presenters, relevant training data to allow best practise decisions. Planning To develop and deliver an annual training calendar, Ensure Training courses are well planned, Overseeing the operational efficiency of the training function, delegating tasks as appropriate. Design Collate and report on relevant market information on an on-going basis; Assist with the development of Training courses within the firm, take a proactive stance to delegation of organisation of the Training courses. To oversee the smooth operational function and organisation of the Training division, including overseeing course administration, Design relevant training opportunities using suitable presenters Strategic Development With other senior managers (including Human Resources) within the firm, be proactive in proposing the training business future direction, Make recommendations regarding the training business to the Executive Management Team based on relevant market trends To build and grow the training business, identifying profitable training opportunities and suitable presenters, Relationships To build and maintain business relationships that will enhance the ongoing growth and stability of Polson Higgs, Promote our Training brand in the employment market. Trainer development Active involvement in training and development processes to ensure quality presenters are available, Involvement in monthly internal training and annual residential courses. This may involve development and presentation of training courses, Proactive in becoming a Trainer including development of a relevant course or courses, Prepare and present information for inclusion in monthly Training reports to the Executive Management Team, Work as part of the team; consulting and building relationships across the service lines, encourage cross selling between divisions, Lead by example, command respect. Professionalism Remain technically up to date and abreast of any changes in industry best practice and legislation through active participation in training and self-development. Internal Training Develop and facilitate training to all Polson Higgs staff. From example LD1 course To work collaboratively with HR and Sales and Marketing to design and deliver valuable training needs to Polson Higgs staff Page 4 of 6

5 Staff Conference Lead and facilitate the staff conference, with direction from the Executive Management Team Work collaboratively with other key stakeholders e.g. Human Resources and Sales and Marketing Business Management Manage business and achieve or exceed budget Monitor overall financial performance of the team and takes action to ensure goals are achieved. Accountable for quality, timeliness and presentation. Actively manage workflow, ensuring deadlines are met. Delegate effectively and appropriately Staff Management Responsibilities Management and mentoring of team members; assisting in their professional development Develop a desire in others to work towards common goals Set challenging, relevant assignments for staff Ensure that staff have a clear understanding of what is to be achieved. Encourage learning and development, giving timely and constructive feedback. Recognise good performance, deals quickly with poor performance Assist staff to progress their career goals. Communication Communication is professional and appropriate, both internally and externally. All written and verbal communication is clear and concise. Documentation and s are correctly maintained on SharePoint Feedback is given and received constructively. Performance Development Plan (PDP) Ensure all staff within delegated responsibility have current performance development plans. Active engagement with your performance development plan. Opportunities for personal and professional development are taken.
