Regards Nick Cann CEO IFP The candidates are: Richard Allum Melony Holman Ian S. Howe Jason McGuigan Patrick Murphy Chris Williams Please click here to vote Richard Allum CFP CM APP Over the last few years, the IFP has made a significant effort to raise awareness of the role of Paraplanning in Financial Planning, and support Paraplanners in their day to day jobs. As someone who is keen to see Paraplanners continue to support Financial Planners in delivering robust financial advice to clients, I want to be part of the team that defines and delivers the way in which the IFP continues to work with Paraplanners.

Compared to other roles in the industry, Paraplanning is still in its infancy. There is still much to be done to ensure Paraplanners have access to the right contacts, knowledge and expertise in order for them to support the Financial Planning process to the highest possible standard. With its commitment to the development of all Financial Planning professionals, including Paraplanners, the IFP is ideally placed to contribute to the debate on standards for Paraplanning. Not only can it help to shape the debate, but it's the best mechanism to deliver the support needed for Paraplanners to reach these standards. In other words, I want to apply my experience running an outsourced Paraplanning business, working with other Paraplanners and advisers, and work with the IFP to improve standards and confidence in all the roles that contribute towards Financial Planning outcomes. Brief C.V 2009 present: Founder and Managing Director, Paraplan Plus Ltd a successful outsourced Paraplanning business, providing support to Financial Planners. The business has grown to offer in addition to the core Paraplanning service, support for the Financial Planning processes. Richard is also a regular public speaker; attending and contributing to workshops, meetings and conferences throughout. Over recent months, his talks have often covered the role of cash flow forecasting in the Financial Planning process present: Founder and Managing Director, Moneyscope A straightforward way for advisers to calculate their clients' lifetime cash flow. I created Moneyscope, an online cash flow forecast tool, to ensure advisers have a simple, easy to use way of bringing money to life for clients present: Founder, Paraplanner Directory Helping financial advisers to find outsourced and freelance Paraplanners, the Paraplanner Directory is a register for any Paraplanners who wish to add their details in order to help make it easier for financial advisers to source the Paraplanning support they need : Managing Director, Adviser Assist Ltd A specialist outsourced Paraplanning company supporting financial advisers : Executive Consultant, Zurich IFA Group Melony Holman CFP CM I want to be involved in helping the IFP attract even more quality advisers as members, building the growing community of successful Financial Planners to network and share ideas. I believe that the IFP is a body with a strong culture of supporting the delivery of quality advice to clients by well qualified, professional Financial Planners. I would like to help the IFP to promote the fact that proper Financial Planning is one of the easiest ways of meeting FSA regulatory requirements. My experience in working with a number of Financial Planners will help me to represent their views as well as those of the broader IFP membership when it comes to the IFP board and strategic planning should I be fortunate enough to be elected of course! I feel that I am a proactive person that can help make things happen and

drive things forward. I attained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER CM certification in July 2010 and Chartered Financial Planner in January Established Compliance and Training Solutions Ltd. (CATS) in February 2005, providing compliance support to small IFA firms. In 2010, the firm took the proactive decision to target services towards Financial Planners. The firm now has 5 consultants and an Operations Director and looks after circa 80 firms, of which 40% are financial planning firms, many of which are members of the IFP. Prior to CATS I worked as an inhouse compliance manager for a firm in Colchester. Prior to that I worked as a compliance field consultant for DBS Financial Management Ltd where I looked after circa 100 advisers within East Anglia. I have 15 years experience in the compliance field. I currently write monthly articles for IFP enews bulletins, and have on occasion written for Citywire. In 2012 I joined the IFP Education Committee. Ian S. Howe CFP CM Why am I standing for the Board of the IFP? Simply I believe that my experience and knowledge will add to the existing efforts of the IFP by working to increase the profile of Financial Planning as a concept and the awareness of the IFP as a professional body. We need a far higher awareness in the public consciousness as to what we do with our clients as a profession in making a real difference to the lives of real people If I am fortunate enough to receive your vote, I would work tirelessly in achieving this aim. The Accredited Financial Planning Firm TM initiative is a real opportunity to ramp up the level of awareness of the quality of the service and advice we deliver, both in the minds of clients and likeminded professionals. AFPF status should not aim to rival or compete with the CII s Chartered firm accreditation but show how much more meaningful it is in demonstrating that we add tangible, long term value to clients and their families. I would relish the challenge of making this a reality. I believe we should initiate a marketing offensive. If elected I would look to articulate and promote the concept of Financial Planning to all that would listen on behalf of the IFP and its members. We need to show how we change lives for the better, in contrast to the behaviour of introspective, shameless asset gatherers with big brands and even bigger marketing budgets. Over 21 years I've evolved my beliefs, knowledge and skills through working within tied agency

sales, being a transactional, commission addicted IFA, through to having the final epiphany of becoming a Financial Planning professional. I now have the absolute pleasure of being the Managing Director of Accredited Financial Planning Firm, Baigrie Davies. I've experienced the 'bad' and the 'ugly' and, for the last nine years, have definitely been on the side of 'good'. I know how our profession needs to be focussed in order to flourish and thrive. In the last six years, I've been fortunate enough to lead Baigrie Davies on its own journey to demonstrating greater professionalism, from an ethical, but commission remunerated IFA firm to an advice led, fee charging and client centric Financial Planning business. I remain a private client Financial Planner, whilst also having the responsibility for the profitability and corporate governance of Baigrie Davies, developing and delivering our marketing strategy, growth plans, proposition development and the recruitment and retention of a team of 23 fellow professionals. Crucially, I have never lost sight of the huge responsibility we have to intimately understand the lives of our clients and ensure that their wealth delivers for them, and their loved ones, the life they choose. Jason McGuigan CFP CM Why am I standing for the Board of the IFP? I sum it up in 1 word Education. Helping to educate communities about Financial Planning, helping to educate advisers and helping to educate professional connections. Two specific areas of interest include: With the typical age of an adviser being 55, recruiting new blood is of paramount importance to the profession's future. Working within an Accountancy practice, I see many school leavers on work experience who see Accountancy as the next step. They have little concept about Financial Planning as a career path. The IFP has already had tremendous success getting Financial Planning onto University curriculums but what about kids that instead want to "Earn and Learn"? I have personal experience of this, as my 18 year old daughter decided to not go to University and instead study for her Financial Planning, exams whilst she works in a shoe shop. We need to develop ways to helps these kids progress too? Could this be via an apprenticeship style approach with college day release? I would like to develop this concept Working with an Accountancy practice for 15 years, I know how difficult it is to work with professional connections. I always used to think that linking to an Accountancy firm was the best way to grow a client portfolio, like a kid being locked in a sweet shop. But the reality is that the sweets are locked away and you need to find ways to open the jar. It's all about credibility, patience, planning not product and explaining why Financial Planning is different to financial advice. I feel I can add value here too. I started my career in financial services in 1988 as a self employed financial consultant working initially with General Portfolio for 3.5 years, then moving to Commercial Union Financial services (CUFS) for a further 3.5 years and then a very brief spell with Abbey Life following the transfer of CUFS business to Abbey Life. In 1995, I made the decision to move into an employed banking role and joined Abbey National where I stayed for two years progressing from adviser into a sales management role. It was during my time at Abbey National that I started studying for the AFPC qualifications and I realised after successful completion, that I wanted to advise at a higher level.

I therefore joined Critchleys Chartered Accountants in 1997 to help set up an IFA practice. As time progressed, I joined the IFP and over time I realised that clients don't value product, they value planning, so the business had to be re modeled into a business where remuneration is based on advice not product sales. 15 years on it has grown into a profitable and well respected "new model" business. As principlal within the FP business (CFPLLP) and in my capacity as Head of Private Client within the Accountancy parent, I am responsible for managing a team of consultants, para planners, administrators and tax staff as well as looking after a portfolio of clients myself. I became a CFP CM professional in 2005, a Chartered Financial Planner in 2011 and CFPLLP achieved Chartered Firm status in Patrick Murphy CFP CM FIFP Over the last 20 years, I have won numerous awards, the pinnacle of which was winning the Money Management Financial Planner of the Year award in I have always made a commitment to continued learning and selfdevelopment and have become one of the most highly qualified advisers within the UK. I am a Certified Financial Planner CM professional, a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Planning, a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and a Chartered Financial Planner. Following my success in becoming both a CFP CM professional and also a Fellow of the IFP, I decided (in September 2007) to further my qualifications by taking a 'fast track' course at Napier University in Edinburgh to obtain a Financial Services degree a BA (Honours) in Financial Services. I was extremely proud to have graduated with a first class honours degree in July 2008 and won the University medal by coming top of my class for that year. I have completed all of my gap fill and have received Statement of Professional Standing. I believe that I would bring a great deal of experience to the Board of the IFP, which would greatly enhance my ability to raise the profile of the IFP, which would benefit both the IFP and the community of CFP CM professionals in general. 6 Chris Williams CFP CM FIFP Put simply, I wish to use my experience of managing and positively effecting change to help the IFP shape and influence the Financial Planning profession at a pivotal moment in its history. Specifically, offer my services for the benefit of the IFP and its members to: Increase the provision of advice and financial education to all sectors of society so that all are equipped to make informed decisions. In short, help improve financial 'fitness' in the UK. Assist the IFP to influence the shape of regulation for the benefit of our financial planning community. Support the IFP in their commitment to adopt rigorous standards of education, continuing professional development and ethical behaviour in order to rebuild trust with potential clients. Challenge traditional thinking and explore new ways of delivering Financial Planning and education. Promote the benefits of Paraplanning to Financial Planners and Planning Firms as a force for efficiency and consistency. Brief C.V Skilled in Financial Planning and management with 15 years experience in financial services, initially as an adviser and latterly developing Ashcourt Rowan's Financial Planning operation. I've a proven history of working with and motivating purpose driven teams focused on success. Currently I'm responsible for a Financial Planning business which has 84 advisers across 16 regional offices; in particular, the quality of its advice, acquisition of new clients and the delivery of a consistent client service proposition. I've helped to deliver consistent year on year revenue growth whilst importantly, influencing the increase in fee income. Top line revenue growth has been delivered with operational and cost efficiency through the implementation of a centralised operating model. The quality of advice is fundamental to my philosophy both as an adviser and leader. I've been keen to embed the Paraplanning function within Ashcourt Rowan's operating model; creating and appointing a new role of Head of Paraplanning to oversee a team of 17 Paraplanners to ensure the consistency of advice and service at the highest level for clients. I've achieved both Chartered Financial Planner and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER CM certification. I also established and chaired the Bath branch of the Institute of Financial Planning ( ) and am currently a member of the PFS Leaders Summit Group.
