3 Garforth Extended Services Cluster Core Purpose We will agree, publish and maintain a development plan for the extended services provision within the cluster, for the period of the project, which: reflects current national legislation; reflects current local policy (Leeds Children s and Young People s Plan); contributes to raising attainment, attendance and behaviour; meets the requirements of external agencies (Ofsted) reflects local school and academy objectives; is in keeping with the aims, objectives and ethos of the partners. Undertake to procure and/or establish within the partner schools the extended school provision required within the Action Plan. Be empowered to enter into service level agreements with independent providers for the delivery of services within the locality Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the provision within the Cluster and receive reports on the delivery of that provision from the Cluster Management team, Leeds City Council, Ofsted and other external bodies on the effectiveness of the provision offered. On receipt of these reports the Management Board will find ways of maintaining, supporting, improving and promoting the work of the extended provision within the Cluster. Report on its activities to the Governing Bodies of the locality schools and to Leeds City Council and other appropriate bodies as requested. Ensure that the appropriate arrangements, in respect of safeguarding, are in place and are implemented within all the extended provision. Promote the implementation of policies, procedures and advice in respect of Health and Safety issued by Leeds City Council and other appropriate bodies within the extended school provision. 5 FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER (Outreach) Scale C3 22,221(pro rata) 30 hours per week (days and times negotiable) Term Time only plus 5 days Temporary for 12 months in the first instance You will be based initially at Micklefield CofE Primary School, within the Garforth Extended Services Cluster with an administrative base at Garforth Academy. Garforth Academy is an outstanding and high profile school, one of the most successful in the North of England. The Academy is sponsored by the School Partnership Trust Academies an educational organisation which in partnership with its schools delivers the best possible outcomes for young people and families in the local communities in which they serve. We are seeking to appoint a Family Support Worker to work, in an outreach capacity, in our Extended Services Cluster, providing direct support to agreed children within school and engaging with the local community providing direct advice, information and support to children, young people and their families. You will need to have experience working with children, families, young people and the organisations that can affect their lives. 6 GARFORTH EXTENDED SERVICES JOB DESCRIPTION Family Support Worker (Outreach) Scale: Hours: C3 22,221 (pro rata) 30 hours per week (days and times negotiable) Term time only plus 5 days Temporary for 12 months in the first instance. Responsible to: Senior Family Support Worker Responsible for: None at present Purpose of the job: To provide additional support, as appropriate, to children within the school. To develop positive relationships with parents/carers and partners to enable children and young people to develop their full potential. To work in an outreach capacity, based in the first instance at Micklefield CofE Primary School. To engage with the local community providing advice, information and support to children, young people and their families. The Family Support Worker will be expected to go into people s homes to offer practical help and emotional support to families experiencing various problems. The primary concern of the Family Support Worker is the care of the children and young people who may be experiencing difficulties. This could include the mis-use of drugs including alcohol, problems at home, financial or emotional difficulties and school attendance. The work varies according to the needs of the child and the family. Duties and Responsibilities Engage and consult with parents/carers of pupils to promote early intervention, high quality parenting (assertive, consistent, responsive and engaged) and identify where there are needs. Assist with the provision of targeted intervention to prevent breakdown of relationship with school, young person and family alongside other key agencies i.e. Learning Mentors, Pastoral staff, SENCO, Outreach Workers, Family Support, Attendance Officers, Social Care, Health Visitors, Educational Psychologist. Work in close partnership with the nominated person in each of the Cluster schools. Work in partnership with cluster based workers/teams to identify and address key priorities in relation to attendance, attainment and behaviour. 7 Support with the delivery of relevant support programmes.. To signpost parents/carers to the range of universal groups, support, services and activities on offer. To work in partnership with other relevant organisations. To lead on CAFs where involvement with family requires this multi-agency support. Keep records and appropriate documentation as identified. To manage an agreed caseload. To support and deliver a daily breakfast club and weekly parents morning. To support the delivery of after school provision. Have an awareness and commitment to core strategies and policies such as Safeguarding and Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety as well as Inclusion and Participation. Relationships Line Management through Garforth Extended Services. Key Partnership links with school staff, SENCOs, Learning Mentors, Outreach Workers and Educational Psychologist in addition to Social Care, Health Visitors and other relevant services. Physical Conditions Administrative base will be at Garforth Academy but based in the first instance at Micklefield CofE Primary School. All schools and academies operate a non-smoking policy. Qualifications Desirable relevant qualifications include: NVQ Level 3 in Childcare, Health, Education, Social Care or Adult Learning Support CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education BETEC National Diploma in Childhood Studies Certificate in Education Dip HE in Youth and Community Work Other specific duties To undertake any other appropriate duty not mentioned in the above To comply with any reasonable request from a manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in the job description.
