1 Grow OD: the mentors

2 My name is Jayne and I m a trained Grow OD virtual mentor. I currently work for Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as Assistant Director for Education and Organisational Development. I have an MSc in Human Resource Development, which included modules on both OD and consultancy and gave me the OD models from which to develop my practice. I have been in my current role for just under four years. I have undertaken significant OD projects including work around service transformation and leadership development (including developing a coaching culture) and trust values and staff engagement. I am currently co-ordinating a piece of work that looks to make the connections between staff and patient experiences, and what we need to do to enhance these. Prior to that I spent just over six years working in a similar role within a mental health trust in Birmingham, which gave me significant experience of the challenges of working within different NHS contexts. Before that role, I worked for two years in an NHS trading arm as a HR and OD consultant with much work based in East and West Midlands. I worked on a variety of projects including supporting the national initiative Improving Working Lives and undertaking bespoke interventions in organisations around service redesign, implementation of appraisal systems and the delivery of HR transformation projects and training. I have a level seven certificate in executive coaching and mentoring and have worked in both a mentoring and coaching capacity with a range of senior managers across the NHS. I have also worked with graduate trainees as both programme and placement manager, and undertook the NHS Institute Programme developed in partnership with Bath Consultancy on coaching supervision. jayne.dickenson@nhs.net

3 My name is Nicoll and I m a trained Grow OD virtual mentor. My role is OD Lead in Transformation for NHS Business Services Authority. I lead on the provision of OD insight to inform the transformation agenda involving supporting the director of transformation and other senior leaders, designing and creating environments that enable delivery of transformation across services. I have supported my OD practice through academic study and regularly participate in CPD activities. I am currently working with colleagues to ensure we develop services consistent with the Government s digital strategy. This has some real implications for how we organise our work, lead, collaborate, think differently make decisions and consider user needs. I recently worked as part of a delivery team to facilitate a leadership development programme, based around personal strengths. Whilst working as an occupational therapist in clinical settings, I undertook the role of practice educator for many years - assisting students to consolidate their theory into practice and encourage them to build theory from their practice. Similarly, when responsible for running services, I developed an environment where inquiry was valued and supervision, peer review and reflection were routinely deployed, in pursuit of developing rigour in practice and ensuring great patient care. Feedback from those I have worked with in a mentoring capacity highlights that I am fun to work with and encourage people to think issues through using different tools and techniques. Mentees feel their thinking is challenged in supportive ways and I am good at developing people s awareness, understanding and options for choice regarding the application of OD keeping approaches grounded and practical. n.loyd@nhs.net Phone number

During this time I have been involved in the trust s leadership development programmes. This has been a very exciting project as I have been able to make some interesting contributions from my past clinical leadership experience. I am also a NHS 360 feedback facilitator.
