8 2013 Top line Trends Commitment to community is being institutionalized as a top priority throughout companies. Ninety-two percent of The Civic 50 can describe board, executive or senior leadership resolutions or directives that institutionalize corporate policies and practices related to community engagement up from 76 percent in The majority of The Civic 50 companies, 96 percent, evaluate the business impact of civic engagement on at least one aspect of their bottom line, such as increased sales, brand loyalty or employee recruitment. In 2012, this number was 86 percent. Employees are given more opportunities to volunteer and 88 percent of companies are including community involvement as a component of employee performance reviews, up slightly from 84 percent in 2012.

9 Businesses believe that community engagement programs make employees more valuable -employee skill sets have expanded as a result of employee volunteering. People want to work for companies that do good - especially millennials. This is apparent in both the interview process and promotional materials. Employees are being evaluated on both business performance and their participation in community work. Businesses are seeing that a strong, strategic community program has bottom line benefits - improving a company's brand, recruitment and sales. Despite corporate philanthropy appearing flat, we see companies going all-in by: using employees' time and talent, giving in kind donations, forging partnerships with government and using their platform for issue advocacy.

11 Corporations are holding employees and leadership accountable for success How important is an employee s involvement in your community engagement program when conducting staff performance reviews? Thirty percent of all employee evaluations are based on the "WU Behaviors," reflecting our strong value of ethics, integrity and community engagement. Responsible behavior includes community engagement and shared value, based on criteria including developing shared value products, leading FeaFea local fundraising events, volunteering for the WU Foundation or in the community. As part of their performance objectives - which are the basis for professional evaluations and bonuses - all Western Union employees are asked to create a "Social Ventures" objective, aimed at reinforcing each individual employee's commitment to using our business assets to deliver business and social results. Such objectives can range from developing a new shared value product, to sourcing from socially responsible vendors, to drawing new Agents into the Agent Giving Program. A partnership among:
