8 Preparing for selection interviews Unconscious bias training Unconscious bias is a preference for or against someone or a group of people that influences our interactions with them without us even knowing it. We all have it and it s not necessarily a bad thing, provided we understand our unconscious bias and how we can balance it to make more informed decisions. For example, who we might recruit into our team, what performance rating to give someone, which candidates to select for interviews or how to increase our network of contacts with people who might not look or sound like us. How can you do that? Well, you could try the three online modules available on Learning Home: Understanding and tackling unconscious bias (BTGBIA001) Reducing bias in recruitment (BTGBIA002) Managing performance without bias (BTGBIA003) You can find more information on unconscious bias on the Academy. Interview skills training Selection interviewing in BT- BTSELINTPW001 This online course is designed to prepare hiring managers for selection interviewing in Openreach. 8
