1 Job Description JOB TITLE: SALARY: HOURS: RESPONSIBLE TO: Student Enrichment and Engagement Officer Point 17 to 19 on the salary scale for support staff Full Time Tutorial and Student Services Manager JOB PURPOSE: To plan, develop, and supervise a programme of tutorial and extra-curricular enrichment activities which promotes and encourages students to engage with the Every Child Matters agenda and to develop employability and leadership skills. To manage the College s regular communication with the student body and to ensure that student feedback is sought, monitored and responded to. To foster and develop positive and constructive relationships between students across the college MAIN DUTIES 1. To plan, run and monitor an annual programme of clubs, trips and activities for students to take part in, both independently and in liaison with curriculum staff and the Tutorial and Student Services Manager 2. To proactively encourage students to develop themselves in each of the ECM areas by being a positive and visible influence around the College campus 3. To work alongside the College s sports enrichment Officer to facilitate the participation of students in organised leagues and competitions, both internally and externally 4. To lead and organise a themed, charity and promotional activities (including, for example, Children in Need and end-of-term activities) 5. To work as part of a team with the Tutorial and Student Services Manager and the Careers and Employment Advisor to develop a coherent approach to employability and leadership development 6. To lead and train on peer mentoring initiatives and other student engagement initiatives. 7. To monitor and regularly review take-up of enrichment activities and produce a regular monitoring report which results in an annual improvement plan 8. To implement impact measures to judge effectiveness of enrichment and events and provide feedback to the Tutorial and Student Services Manager in order to ensure the programme is continuously improved and relevant to students views and ideas. 9. To work to expand external opportunities available to students both with local providers and with enrichment schemes by negotiating access deals and researching new opportunities 10. 2 11. To develop a broad understanding of the student dynamics within the campus and to work actively with individuals and groups of students to develop a supportive and friendly environment 12. To compile a weekly bulletin of information for students, with contributions from the whole department and other staff 13. To keep abreast of local and national developments in the operation and funding of the enrichment curriculum 14. To ensure that all trips and enrichment activities go ahead in accordance with College policies and agreed safety codes 15. To accompany students on visits or activities associated with all aspects of enrichment and ECM and carry our risk assessments. 16. To create a stimulating and positive environment within student amenity areas, ensuring they are safe and secure for students. 17. To foster positive relationships and build confidence amongst students. 18. To maintain appropriate records, including evaluation sheets from all activities, for monitoring purposes. 19. To take appropriate responsibility for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and/or vulnerable adults. 20. To contribute to enrolment, induction and open events. 21. Any other duties and responsibilities, commensurate with the grade. 22. Perform any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Principal. 23. 3 Person Specification The following qualifications, qualities, skills and experience are considered necessary in this key post: 1. Essential Education and Qualifications a. Level 2 qualifications and skills in Maths, English or a willingness to gain these in the first year of accepting this post. b. Good level of literacy and numeracy. c. Successful completion of a level 3 qualification 2. Desirable Education and Qualifications a. Level 2 qualification and skills in ICT. b. A recognised youth work qualification, teaching qualification or other professional qualification for work with young adults. c. Level 4 or degree qualification in a relevant vocational area 3. 5 General Terms and Conditions for Student Enrichment and Engagement Officer Salary: Tenure: Hours: Annual Leave: In the range from 18,558 to 19,061 per annum inclusive of Outer London Allowance. This post is offered on a term time (either full time or fractional), permanent basis. You will be expected to work such hours, including evenings, as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties and responsibilities, with a normal working week of 37 hours for full time staff and pro-rata for fractional staff. 27 Annual leave plus statutory bank holidays. Staff on term time only contracts will be required to take annual leave outside of the academic term. A timetable will be provided at the beginning of each academic year detailing term dates and holiday periods, in which term time only staff will be expected to take their annual leave. Probation: Notice Period Staff Development: Pension: Confirmation of appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of nine months probationary period. During this period you will be expected to establish your suitability for the appointment. The notice period for this post is one month. Staff are required to participate in reasonable arrangements for further training and development. Support staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
