1 Job Description General Details Job title: Faculty/Service: Normal Workbase: Tenure: Hours/FT: Campus Life Crew Member Mechanical ngineer (CS16/06) states and Commercial Services Stoke Campus * Please see Special Conditions Permanent Full Time, working 37 Hours per Week * Please see Special Conditions Grade/Salary: Grade 5 Date Prepared: February 2017 Job Purpose As a member of the Campus Life Services Team, carry out an inspection programme of planned, preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance/installation/refurbishment of /mechanical engineering/ plumbing and heating systems. Undertake testing and certification of electrical plant to ensure statutory compliance. Carry out fault diagnosis and repairs to the states fixed electrical installations so as to maintain a safe and reliable service. Uphold the Department values of being Diligent, kind and xcellent at all times and act as a role model to others. Relationships Reporting to: Responsible for: Campus Life Operations Manager - Maintenance Not Applicable Main Activities To carry out maintenance, servicing, testing and certification of lectrical plant and undertake remedial works as a result of the scheduled inspections programme To understand the workings of the maintenance services, systems and building structures across the estate, ensuring that they are maintained to a high standards and that all plant and equipment is utilised in a safe manner Maintenance of pumps, valves and plant room equipment Carry out routine testing of essential systems and and equipment eg fire alarm, boiler plant, generators etc recording results in accordance with states department policies and procedures Become conversant with the Building Management system to an extent that alarms can be interpreted, actioned and reset Maintenance of appropriate records, as required by legislation, appertaining to the main activities of the post

2 nstallation and removal of dead legs and maintenance pumps, valve, insulation, fans, etc to manufacturers recommended instructions To install and maintain all types of industrial, domestic heating and gas systems. ncluding pressed, steel, cast iron, copper and plastic pipework, minor steel fabrications Maintenance of gas appliances, i.e. boilers, gas valves, lab equipment. Compressed air lines and oil lines nstallation of mechanical and electrical plant in commercial boiler rooms Plumbing/heating repairs, installation and maintenance Ordering and control of trade related materials Liaison with electrical/plumbing /heating/ other contractors, in the performance of their duties To provide a maintenance service to all state buildings and be able to work unsupervised. To have a flexible approach to the work and be able to work beyond the normal hours of duty if required and to carry out other tasks from other disciplines should circumstance apply. Special Conditions The role holder will be required to travel to the Stafford (BHL) Campus as part of the normal working week. The role holder will be required to travel between sites in a cost effective manner, which may be through the use of a car. This is a permanent full time post working 37 hours over a 7-day week on a shift basis. There is a requirement to work on an agreed shift pattern, which includes nights, weekends and bank holidays. very member of our team makes a difference to our customer s experience.
