Salary: 33,790 pro rata per annum (pay award pending) Deadline for applications: Monday 8 May 2017 at 12 noon General description of the post We are seeking a Policy officer (0.6 FTE) to work collaboratively with the policy team at ECU to assist the team in implementing projects, developing guidance and information for the sector. 3 Job description General description of the post This role will report to the Policy programme manager. This post will be based in London and form part of ECU s policy team. The Policy officer (0.6 FTE) will assist the policy team in implementing projects, developing guidance and information for the sector. The post holder should be able to work independently and to exercise sound judgment on complex issues/queries, but also be able to work collaboratively drawing on the expertise of others. Working collaboratively with the policy team will be a fundamental task of the role. Liaison with key external stakeholders will also be a key feature of the work. Occasional UK travel will be required. Specific responsibilities Policy and stakeholder engagement = To support the implementation of a range of projects. = To deliver other aspects of ECU s policy and project work as required, including undertaking desk research, coordinating and attending project meetings, liaising with project participants and consultants, undertaking monitoring and evaluation, drafting policy papers, briefing notes, guidance and presentations and disseminating outputs. = To be well-informed about equality legislation as to the UK and the HE and FE sectors, utilising this knowledge to develop relevant work. = To maintain effective processes and systems for the work of the policy team. = To undertake stakeholder engagement activity and meeting with stakeholders to develop and maintain relationships and inform ECU s work. = To coordinate and assist with the management, planning and delivery of presentations, workshops, meetings, seminars and other events, including project steering. = To respond effectively and swiftly to internal and external enquiries from colleagues, colleges, higher education institutions and other organisations as appropriate. = To support management of accounts of ECU subscriber organisations. = To communicate with the college and higher education sector audiences in a proactive, timely, consistent and effective manner and in accordance with ECU s communications strategy, including updating relevant pages of ECU s website. 5 Person specification Educational requirements = A first degree or equivalent evidence of analytical, communication and problem-solving ability. Essential experience and attributes = Ability to work in teams, including at geographic distance, contributing to team decisions and maintaining team relationships by supporting others. = Ability to foster cooperative working and learning relationships with internal and external partners. = Excellent project management skills, to oversee large and dynamic projects involving to ensure project outcomes are delivered. = Excellent organisational skills with the ability to provide project support to several projects at once within set timeframes. = Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to interpret and explain complex information to a range of audiences. = Ability to make appropriate decisions independently and work to deadlines with minimal supervision. = Suitable IT skills - ECU currently uses Microsoft Office with the ability to research on the Internet and make full use of , electronic diary management, databases, Excel and PowerPoint. Desirable experience, skills and qualifications = Experience of equality and diversity issues, legislation and practice, preferably within further or higher education. = Specific experience or expertise in race or gender equality policy and practice. = Knowledge or experience of student access to post-16 education.
