JOB TITLE: Psychologist REPORTS TO: Centre Head PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNATBILITY: Maggie s Lead Clinical Psychologist RESPONSIBLE FOR: Psychological supervision of centre staff, assistants and trainees in accordance with Maggie s policies and procedures LIAIASES WITH: HOURS PAY BAND: BASE: Centre staff Other Maggie s staff Local stakeholders Local NHS colleagues and staff 37.5 hours per week 8a Maggie s Centre 2. JOB SUMMARY The post holder, as a member of a multi-disciplinary team will be responsible for the provision of a high quality and specialist programme of psychological and emotional support. They will be responsible for contributing to the provision of Maggie s programme of psycho-educational support and in collaboration with the Centre Head for developing aspects of Maggie s programme and the manner of its delivery in accordance with Maggie s policies and procedures, and for piloting and evaluating such initiatives within their Centre in collaboration with the Centre Head and in accordance with Maggie s Research and audit policy The post holder will be responsible for the facilitation of support groups, networking groups, workshops, courses and lectures and will have responsibility for enabling people affected by cancer to access all appropriate elements of Maggie s programme of support. The post holder will be responsible for ongoing review of the literature in relation to psychosocial support in relation to Maggie s programme. They will be responsible for providing teaching input with regard to Maggie s model of psychosocial support and the theoretical and cultural underpinnings to the programme within the local community. 2 The post holder will have responsibility for recording data in relation to their own work in accordance with Maggie s policies and procedures and for participation in ongoing programme and practise evaluation in relation to both their own work and that of programme activity within their centre. They will contribute to Maggie s programme of annul audit, Centre review and triennial review. They will be responsible for facilitating weekly staff support and supervision meetings, and will contribute to staff training as required. The post caries responsibility for providing support to Maggie s Centre Community fundraiser in promoting Maggie s Cancer Caring Centres Trust Charity within the local community 3. ORGANISATIONAL POSITION See attached organizational chart. 4. KEY RESULT AREAS KRA 1. Primary job requirements: 1. Participate in the provision of an integrated programme of cancer support for people affected by cancer. 2. Provide specialist psychological support to people affected by cancer accessing Maggie s Centre s and its programme; responsible for providing support for individuals, couples, families, carers, groups. 3. Responsible for utilising a range of formats for support including individual, couples, family, group work including support groups and networking groups, and other mechanisms including psycho-educational formats such as workshops and lectures. 4. Will have the professional lead and professional responsibility for facilitating Maggie s programme of support groups. 5. To supervise centre staff with regard to psychological aspects of programme provision including psychological assessment, processes and issues in the support of people affected by cancer. 6. Facilitate access by people affected by cancer to all appropriate elements of Maggie s programme of cancer support. 7. Responsible in collaboration with Centre Head for developing and promoting the programme of support. 8. Responsible in collaboration with Centre Head for raising awareness of and enabling access to Maggie s Centres. 9. Responsible with other staff for maintaining the Centre environment as a welcoming place. 10. Responsible for facilitating the weekly staff support and supervision meetings. 11. To provide specialist support and supervision where agreed locally and in discussion with the Centre Head to NHS staff. KRA 2. Finance and Policy and Programme Development: 12. Responsibility for effective implementation and evaluation of agreed programme and service developments in accordance with Maggie s policies and procedures. 13. Responsible for proposing and developing programme initiatives in relation to the local programme of cancer support. 14. 3 15. Responsibility for implementation of policies and procedures in relation to own work and in relation to the programme within the centre. KRA 3. Human Resources: 16. Responsible for professional supervision of assistant trainees 17. Responsible with the Centre Head for training and teaching of staff and volunteers. 18. Responsibility for teaching and training within the local health care and academic communities KRA 4. Research and Development Activity 19. To work with the Centre Head in planning and proposing innovative and creative developments to the programme 20. Responsible for developing as required, and piloting and evaluating agreed new programme initiatives in accordance with Maggie s Research and Audit policy. 21. Responsible for the utilisation of theoretical and evidence based practice in relation to programme provision 22. In collaboration with Centre Head responsible for audit and programme evaluation in accordance with Maggie s research and audit policy KRA 5. Administration and Information Technology. 23. Responsible for recording and reporting of all data in relation to own work in accordance with professional guidelines and Maggie s policies and procedures 24. Preparation of teaching, presentations and other administrative and programme related resources and materials as required. 25. Responsible for the development and use of multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings. 26. Responsible for establishing and facilitating online cancer support KRA 6. Other 27. To ensure the development and articulation of psychological best practice within the Centre 28. To maintain up to date knowledge, cpd and dissemination of such knowledge within the Centre 29. Participate in Maggie s staff training. 30. Attend staff retreats. 31. Experience of full responsibility for psychological care and treatment. Experience of teaching and training. Demonstrable experience within specialist area of oncology or health psychology.
